Top Ten Characters Who are Bookish
Rose’s List of Top Characters Who are Bookish:
- Hazel Grace from The Fault In Our Stars. I mean come on, she travels half way around the world just to visit an author! Julie and I wouldn’t know ANYTHING about that (sarcasm implied)
- Jane from Jane Eyre. In fact the first page opens to Jane ensconced in a window seat with a book, hiding from her ruthless male cousin.
- Jamie Fraser reads. So he can be on the list. In fact, he is extremely well read. (Outlander)
- Tatiana Metanova from The Bronze Horseman is an avid reader. In fact, the entire world is at war and she is reading Russian satire instead of standing in line for some bread. And Alexander leaves her a very special gift book.
- Daenerys Targaryen (Game of Thrones) is bookish kinda… I mean besides the silver (the horse, not coin) one of the gifts she appreciated the most was the set of books from Ser Jorah Mormont. I mean, except for the Dragon eggs of course. But still. She liked the books. So she is on my list of top ten bookish characters… I am stretching on this one, can you tell?
Julie’s List of Top Characters Who are bookish:
- Hermione from Harry Potter – she is the coolest bookish character ever and you know it and I know and everyone else knows it.
- Diana from A Discovery of Witches – she is a researcher and discovers a magical manuscript in the library.
- Skeeter from The Help – writing a book is a very bookish thing to do.
- Margaret Lea from The Thirteenth Tale – a book lover who ends up writing a biography.
- Jo March from Little Women – loves literature and writes plays for her sisters.

I LOVE your choice for fill-in-blank! Bookish characters are some of the best, and you’ve named a lot of my favorites. I’d have to add Anne (of Green Gables) and Kit from The Witch of Blackbird Pond to my list, but beyond that, you guys have it covered 😉

I’m familiar with most of the characters you both listed, and I agree, most are definitely bookish. I can’t come up with any off the top of my head, but then again, I haven’t had my morning coffee yet. I love Jamie, and I just watched Sunday’s episode of GoT last night where Daenerys kicked some serious ass. I <3 her! And, no list would be complete without Hermione of course!
