Are you getting ready for Halloween? You know it’s on my mind! It is my favorite holiday and all. I thought it would be so much fun to round up some amazing bookish Halloween costumes to inspire us.

What are you dressing yourself and/or your kids up as this year? What bookish costumes have you attempted or nailed in the past?
I attempted a Karou outfit one year. But I waited WAY TOO LONG to make my plan. And in doing so, failed miserably. Plus, Karou is apparently obscure. Too obscure for the mainstream. I think a Halloween costume needs to be obvious enough that someone at the party gets what you are dressed up as. Otherwise, you’ve wasted your time.
I was pregnant at Halloween and almost dressed up as the Golden Snitch. Because I already was as round as could be (since my baby was born just a few days after Halloween) and all I would have needed was a gold dress or top, and some long wings. But I didn’t. Because I was just too pregnant for any nonsense.

At the height of True Blood on HBO, I bought a Merlotte’s t-shirt and apron from Hot Topic and went as a Merlotte’s waitress. 🙂
Not sure what I’m doing this year. Last year I went all out, dyed my hair blue and when at Joy from Inside Out.

I love your Golden Snitch idea, Julie. How fun! (But I totally understand being too pregnant to care.)
And I agree with Lynn that you need your costume to be well-known enough for people to recognize you. Otherwise it’s no fun. 🙂

Some great ideas there! As a kindergarten team we pick a set of costumes together – this year we’re all being fairies. I’m the purple fairy. We’ll all have a different color.
