Book Review – Finding Fraser

Book Review – Finding Fraser

Finding Fraser by K. C. Dyer Publisher: Lions Mountain Literary Date Published: 2015-05 Genres: Humor, Romance, Romantic Comedy Format: eBook Pages: 382 Rating: Description: I met Jamie Fraser when I was nineteen years old. He was tall, red-headed, and at our first meeting at least, a virgin. I fell in love hard, fast and completely. He knew how to ride a horse, wield a sword and stitch a wound. He was, in fact, the perfect man. That he was fictional hardly entered into it. At 29, Emma Sheridan’s life is a disaster and she’s tired of waiting for the perfect… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: Books that ruined you for other books

Chat Between Chapters: Books that ruined you for other books

Have any books ruined you for other books? Did you read something just so amazing that other books just can’t compare? Do share!  Julie: I think there are some books that are so well-written that they can ruin you for other books in a similar genre/style. We can’t help but compare. I think Colleen Hoover’s earlier books ruined me for contemporary and NA romances. Colleen Hoover’s earlier works also ruined me for Colleen Hoover, since she set the bar so high at first. #Sorrynotsorry. I think The Hunger Games ruined me for other dystopias, since it led the way… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: What book(s) would you love to read for the first time?

Chat Between Chapters: What book(s) would you love to read for the first time?

Is there a book (or several books) that you’ve already read but would just love to be able to read for the first time?  Julie: I’m not much of a re-reader, so there are a lot of books that I’ve already enjoyed, but don’t plan on enjoying again. Though it would be fun to enjoy for the first time again. So since I’m lazy, I’ll just show my “favorites” shelf. Any of these books would be fun to enjoy for the first time.      Rose: Hmmm …..There are several books I would love to be able to experience again… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: Top 5 Love Story Reads

Chat Between Chapters: Top 5 Love Story Reads

At Chapter Break, we heart love stories. What are your top 5 love stories of all time?    Rose: While it is very difficult to narrow down to only 5, these are some of my favorite love stories off all time, in no particular order: 1. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon- Jamie and Claire’s love story is EPIC to say the least. I love a tortured hero and a strong heroine and this book has them both! Add in some time travel, horses, Scot’s accents and a kilt and WOW!  2. The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons- This book liberated me… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: Serial Addiction or OCD?

Chat Between Chapters: Serial Addiction or OCD?

Once you start a series, are you compelled to read the entire series, even if you no longer really enjoy the books? In other words, are you suffering from Serial Addiction? or just plain old OCD?  Julie: Nope. I’m perfectly fine letting a series go if I’m not enjoying the books. Really, if a series is super duper long (i.e. more than 7 books), it is more likely that I’m going to call it a day with that series eventually. Call it short attention span or whatever, but I find long series that are ongoing and do not see an… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: Do you have a book you love to recommend?

Chat Between Chapters: Do you have a book you love to recommend?

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.” – John Green, The Fault In Our Stars Which book would this be for you?  Julie: Honestly,  I don’t push books on people very much. Plus, most of the people I talk about books with have already read the books I’ve read anyway. But, there are a few I do recommend if someone new to the bookish world asks for some. For a contemporary… Read more »

Chat Between Chapters: Historical Romance

Chat Between Chapters: Historical Romance

Genre: Historical Romance  Julie: I rarely read historical fiction. I’m more into the fantastical or sci-fi worlds, and am not a good student of history anyway. I like my modern world and don’t really enjoy reading about wars or struggles without electricity. But when I do read historical fiction, it is one of those epic books that everyone loves. Examples: Gone with the Wind and Outlander. These epic giant monster books are definitely worth making an exception to my usual genre reads. I also enjoy the movies or TV shows made from such books, because the clothing of those past… Read more »

Rose’s Quote: ‘Where did you learn to kiss like that?’ I said, a little breathless.  He grinned and pulled me close again. ‘I said I was a virgin, not a monk,’ he said, kissing me again. ‘If I find I need guidance, I’ll ask.’ –Jamie to Claire (Outlander by: Diana Gabaldon) I am soooo excited for this week’s Outlander episode. Chat Between Chapters: Reading after Watching – do you like the movie/TV show better?

Chat Between Chapters: Reading after Watching – do you like the movie/TV show better?

Do you like a movie or TV show better if you watch it first, before reading the book? Or does the book always win, no matter when you read it?  Julie: For the most part, I tend to have already read the book before seeing the movie. But there are a few cases when I  do the reverse. One such example is Water for Elephants. I saw the movie with some book club friends but had never read the book before. I really enjoyed the movie and thought it was excellent. When I finally read the book, it just wasn’t as… Read more »
