Day 2 of Audiobook week 2013 topic:
Tuesday: How do You Choose Your Audiobooks?
How do you decide what you’ll listen to? Do you mostly listen, or split time between listening and reading? Particularly if you split time, how do you decide what you’ll consume in audio and what in print?
Julie’s Thoughts
If an audiobook is available to me via my audiobooks.com streaming membership, I’ll listen to that versus getting a print or ebook copy for convenience. Certain books though I want in print so I’ll get that version and read that version instead. As far as picking books, I try to get most of my general book club reads via streaming audio to keep costs down but if that book is not available, then I’ll get another version. So I guess I split my reading depending on availability and my interest in owning a particular book.
Rose’s Thoughts
I absolutely looooove audiobooks. If I need to read a book quickly (like in a day or two) I will choose the audio version. What I like about audio is that I can read while performing another task, be it driving, cleaning, cooking (who am I kidding, I do not cook! lol) or working, whereas if I read a book in print, I must sit and read and cannot accomplish much else. Recently I entered a 30 day challenge at the stables where I keep my horse to complete 30 hours of “boot camp” riding/training on my horse in the month of June. It is about an hour drive to the barn one way and I have been falling behind in my reading. So listening to the audio version of a book is the perfect solution. I can get my reading in while driving to and from the barn and still have time for my horse! I also like to listen while walking my dog, Maddox or working out (ok, who am I kidding, I do not workout, but if I did, I would listen to audiobooks!!!) Honestly, I am totally IN LOVE with audiobooks. Like, we-are-going-steady in love.
