Every Thursday we are hosting a brand new meme called: That’s what HE said Thursday. For more info on what this meme is all about click here.
Rose’s Quote:
Lowering his voice, he said, ‘In America we have a custom. When you’re given presents for your birthday, you’re supposed to open them and say thank you.’
Tatiana nervously looked down at the present. ‘Thank you.’ Gifts were not something she was used to. Wrapped gifts? Unheard of, even when they came wrapped only in plain brown paper.
‘No. Open first. Then say thank you.’
She smiled. ‘What do I do? Do I take the paper off?’
‘Yes. You tear it off.’
‘And then what?’
‘And then you throw it away.’
‘The whole present or just the paper?’
Slowly he said, ‘Just the paper.’
‘But you wrapped it so nicely. Why would I throw it away?’
‘It’s just paper.’
‘If it’s just paper, why did you wrap it?’
‘Will you please just open my present?’ said Alexander.
–Aleaxander to Tatiana
(The Bronze Horseman by: Paullina Simons)
I know this does not quite conform to our rules for this meme, but it really is a great little exchange between two of my all time favorite characters. This is really a great book. It is historical fiction with a great love story. I would say ultimately it is more of a love story than anything else. Alexander is all alpha male and yet he is softer around Tatiana. This is really a great read that you do not hear much about anymore, but well worth the read.
Julie’s Quote:
I stood beside the U-Haul, and I just watched her. I stared at her while she looked on with the saddest look in her eyes. I wanted to know what she was thinking about, what was going on in her head. What had made her so sad? I wanted to hug her so bad. When she finally got out of the U-Haul and I introduced myself to her, it took all I had to let go of her hand. I wanted to hold on to it forever. I wanted to let her know that she wasn’t alone. Whatever burden it was that she was carrying around, I wanted to carry it for her.
–Will to Lake
(Slammed by: Colleen Hoover)
It took some time for Will to start expressing his feelings to Lake, and even though he tried to fight his feelings for her, he obviously could not deny his need to be there for her.
Awesome quotes! I haven’t read either of these (shame on me, I know) but they both look good. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

It is a great read! One of my all time favorite books ever! I think it would make a wonderful movie or better yet, a mini series. I really do not understand why this book does not get more attention than it does.
I want to read The Bronze Horseman too, I liked the exchange between Alexander and Tatiana. It was funny. 🙂
Slammed is another book I want to read, I mean, I love Colleen Hoover and Hopeless, I bet this series is just as awesome. Soon, pretty soon.

Melissa,
I really enjoyed Slammed, especially when you consider that it is Colleen Hoover’s first book and it is awesome! (I think I liked Hopeless more, but Slammed is good and funny and emotional and swoonworthy and yeah I think you will like it!) And the Bronze Horseman is really my very first “escape” into reading book. I read it in three days over Christmas break one year and wow! It was sooooooo emotional. Hope you like it!
Sheesh Rose you’re really making me want to read The Bronze Horseman now.
I think you might like this one. AND! it takes place in Russia…
