The Diviners by: Libba Bray
In a town house at a fashionable address on Manhatten’s Upper East Side, every lamp blazes. There’s a party going on- the last of the summer. Out on the terrace overlooking Manhatten’s incandescent skyline, the orchestra takes a much-needed break. It’s ten thirty. The party has been on since eight o’clock, and already the guests are bored.
I am reading this for my monthly book club meeting. I am going to have to forego the reading of the actual book I purchased from the store and listen to the audio book because I am running out of time to read this big book. I do not know if it was just that this book failed to really grab me or if it is because I have been so very busy, but for whatever reason, I need to get this book read and read fast. The book club discussion, which I host, is next Wednesday. EEEK! I can usually listen to the audiobook faster than I could have ever read on my own. I can listen at work and on my commute so that definitely helps whenever time is a factor. These few opening lines did not really do much for me. They did set the town, but I don’t feel immediately drawn in or have a huge desire to read on.
I was not too impressed with this book, but I do hope you like it more than I did.
Thanks for stopping by Vonnie’s Reading Corner.
Love the Imagery…thanks for sharing.
I hope your book club has a good discussion.
I am including an entire review and giveaway for my book beginning since I haven’t read anything new for the past two weeks. 🙂

I hope the book starts to grab your interest. It’s been a while since I’ve listened to an audio book (ANGELA’S ASHES, which I highly recommend) and I enjoyed the experience. I guess it depends on the skill of the person reading.

I want to read this and I don’t think I’ll ever be an audio book girl. I got this 4.5 hours Molly Harper book and it’s been 2 months and I’m still not done! Bah! Anyway, good luck! I hope listening to it will prove to be much better than reading.

This book had a really slow start. I don’t know if I would have enjoyed it as much if I didn’t do the audio.
I like the description of the setting. Hope you manage to finish the book in time for your book club meeting. (I definitely know that deadline feeling!)
