Rose’s List of 2014 New Year’s Resolutions/Goals:
To be fair, only a few of my resolutions are book related. Here they are in no particular order:
- Walk Maddox at least once a day, every day. For those who do not know, Maddox is my 1 year of Doberman puppy. To say he is full of energy is an understatement. I have taken him for an off leash walk around our walking trails in our community. It takes about 45 minutes. I come back exhausted. He comes back spritely and with an exuberant spring in his step. So yes, I am also considering a treadmill for my doggy. He needs more exercise than one 45 minute run can give him. So I got a brand spanking new treadmill last week. Have I used it yet? of course not! With the improvement in the weather, Maddox has been getting walked more, but seriously, sometimes I am soooooo exhausted at night time after work and my feet hurt so bad. I don’t walkk Maddox everyday, but I am committed to doing better and he is getting walked more. IMPROVEMENT!!!!
- Ride Kissy (my horse) at least 10 hours/month. I did a 30 hours in 30 days challenge last June and the difference in my horse was astounding. I would love to ride that often all the time, but the shorter days are really a drag on my time. (Although the arena has lights, so perhaps the shorter days is a poor excuse.) The biggest hardship with riding my horse is the long congested commute. It takes usually a little over an hour to get to the horse barn. Since I get home at 5 and want to be in bed by no later than 10, that is pushing it. I have not met this goal at all. I am still not 100% physically recovered from my shoulder injuries due to a car accident back in January in which the other driver decided randomly to drive down the wrong side of a divided 6 lane road. But I did go see Kissy for her birthday last Sunday. Girly is 11 years old! Where has the time gone????
- Speaking of bed, I am making my bedtime of 10pm a priority. In fact, I really want to make my bedtime 9 since I get up at 5 and that way I could get 8 hours. We shall see. Right now I am setting 10pm as my bedtime and well, its 10:14pm as I type this so go figure. Sleep continues to elude me.
- Give up the soda. I am one of those people that has to drink a coke every morning. It is my morning coffee. Well, this past year has seen me gain over 20 pounds, so I am definitely going to be cutting back on the soda. I do not know if I can ever give it up completely, but right now I am weaning off of it. I have been drinking more tea lately and less coke, so there is improvement there.
- Working out more and getting into better shape. I have a shape and its called “round”.
- Finish writing 2 books. Self-publish 2 books? Because I could say that I would do just one. Lets add more work on there. I have not written much, but i have some new idea floating in my head and that is good. I need to stop procrastinating and just WRITE!!!!!
- Improve my Netgalley ratio. Doesn’t every blogger have this goal? I am still going with this is impossible.
- Read 50 new books this year. Scaling it back a little from last year’s goal of 100. That was tough! Okay, according to goodreads, i am on target for completing 50 books by the end of this year. I got caught u so YAY!
- Get my home library organized and on my goodreads shelves. I am doing this with hopes of preventing duplicate purchases. I just get so excited when I see a book on sale for $1.99 that I immediately click! I do not want to miss out on such a steal, right? But then it turns out that I usually already have at least two copies of the same book….go figure! I plan on working on my good reads shelves this month,so good intentions here, That should count.
- Use night time moisturizing eye cream. Because you can have silver hair, but no one likes wrinkles around the eyes. Or at least that is what I have been told. I really just want to avoid dying my hair, so I am holding off as long as possible… lol. So I choose to focus on my eyes right now and the hair can go hang. er something… ..I have been doing this everyday for the past week. I see no visible improvements so far, but i am thinking it takes longer and really isn’t the concept more preventative here, not necessarily corrective? So how did ya’ll do on your New Year’s Resolutions? I am a little bummed that I have not done better, but I think once I get past this injury, I will start doing more. (Excuses, anyone???) I think revisiting these goals on a monthly basis might help me to maintain my focus and possible even achieve one or two of these goals. I am curious to hear how everyone else is doing at this point in the new year.

It looks like you are making good progress on your goals. I hope you get more time to ride Kissy soon. Riding my horse is such a stress reliever for me. It’s frustrating when life works against you to get that time in.

Terri, what kind of horse do you have? What kind of riding do you do? I think that riding is fun and stress relieving most of the time… except when it has been 5 months since you have ridden your spritely half Arabian and then those first few rides dealing with miss ‘tude and freshness is less than stress relieving, lol.
My horse is a black Arabian. I totally understand Arab-tude! Her name is Jezebel or Jez for short. 🙂 And I just happened to catch that Arab-tude on film a couple years ago.

I’m tempted to get a treadmill because I was doing so good walking my dogs each day until it started raining for weeks on end. URGH! I hate spring! It’s only May, keep at it. You can do it! 🙂

Thanks Carmel! I love spring, but the abundance of rain does suck! I think I need two treadmills, lol. One for me and one for my dog. I wonder if he will “heel” on a treadmill if it is right beside me????
The last one makes me smile. I told my mom last year that I don’t get carded anymore. She handed me a powerful moisturizer and said I needed to start using it. Thanks mom! 🙂

haha Michelle, what are mom’s for right? What was the powerful moisturizer!? maybe I need that one!
My shape is round too!
SLEEP: I’ve been trying to sleep early too, wine helps… a lot! LOL So does a few minutes of exercise during the day, get my body tired and use excess energy.
BOOK: Keep on writing!

Thanks for the encouraging words. I want to write, it just seems like there is no time unless I wish to NOT sleep EVER!!!! As for getting that sleep, when I actually permit myself to lie day, falling asleep is instant. Wine is not necessary for this chickadee! er, not for sleep anyways… 🙂
