The Bronze Horseman by: Paullina Simons
Light came through the window, trickling morning all over the room. Tatiana Metanova slept the sleep of the innocent, the sleep of restless joy, of warm, white Leningrad nights, of jasmine June. But most of all, intoxicated with life, she slept the exuberant sleep of undaunted youth.
She did not sleep for much longer.
I am reading this for the second time for my book club. The first time I read this book was nearly 10 years ago. I loved then. I love it now. I love the characters and the story’s complexity. It is set in Russia during WWII and I find that fascinating. As for this book’s beginning, well can we say “Hello blatant foreshadowing!?”
Oooooooooo….I love the very last line. I can just imagine why she didn’t get to sleep much longer.
Glad you are enjoying it the second time around. It sounds very good.
THANKS for sharing.

My Book Beginnings
Thanks Elizabeth. I love rereading my favorite books. And this one never gets old for me.
Great opening. The author gave a lot of information in those first few sentences – the character’s name, the fact that she’s young, and that she’s in Leningrad. Then when her sleep is interrupted, I want to know why! Sounds like a good book.
Here’s the link to my Friday post: DARLIN’ IRISH.
