Here is the beginning of a book I just finished for book club:
Day 5994
I wake up.
Immediately I have to figure out who I am. It’s not just the body- opening my eyes and discovering whether the skin on my arm is light or dark, whether my hair is long or short, whether I’m fat or thin, boy or girl, scarred or smooth. The body is the easiest thing to adjust to, if you’re used to waking up in a new one each morning. It’s the life, the context of the body, that can be hard to grasp.
Every day I am someone else. I am myself- I know I am myself- but I am also someone else.
It has always been like this.
Every Day by:David Levithan
I received this book as a gift from a friend. I thought the concept was interesting, but I had so many books in line to read, that this got sort of forgotten in my giant TBR pile. Then a book club I am part of decided to read it and I was like, SWEET! I do not have to go buy this one! So I just finished reading it and I like it. I was hooked from the first page, but as the story progressed, I got a little stressed out. Everyday I had to relearn who my main character was. This is one of those books that you could read again and again and each time take something different with you. It is unique and thought provoking. I think that one of the main things this book taught me was that no matter what innate qualities you begin your day with, everyday you wake up with the ability to chose what kind of person you are going to be.
Sounds really interesting I haven’t read his books — I might like this one. Thanks for posting the beginning on BBOF!

This book is def different, that is for sure. I say if the beginning interests you, give it a go.
I’ve heard many wonderful things about this book!

Yeah, it seems a lot of people are talking about this book lately.
I had heard of this book but had never taken the time to find out what it was really about. This sounds unique and I like the style of the opening. I can see it being both a re-read book and a little stressful the first couple of times through with the constant changing of characters. Thanks for sharing!

Katherine, you are right on both accounts. I think this book lends itself well to rereading and it was definitely stressful.
This sounds good to me. Happy reading!
Here is my Book Beginning post!!
AND
Here is my Friday 56 post!!
Thanks!
I do wonder what that would feel like, and thus would enjoy experiencing it with the narrator.
Thanks for sharing…and here’s mine: “THE APPETITES OF GIRLS”
Yeah, I do not know if I “enjoyed” waking up a new person every day like A did. Like I said, that sort of stressed me out each day just reading it. I cannot imagine if my life was really like that… I think it would be super stressful.
It does catch my interest. I’m not familiar with the title.
This is a very interesting intro.
This book does have a really intriguing opening doesn’t it?
