Top Ten Books That Should Be In Your Beach Bag or Ten Books That Will Be In My Beach Bag This Summer
Rose’s List of Books In Her Beach Bag:
When I think of books I would take in my Beach Bag I think of real paperbacks. Beaches are hot, so no ebooks on this list. All of the books listed below I have in paper back. I would also choose reads that would appear to be on the lighter side. And all, are of course, New Adult Contemporary Love Stories… And since I am trying real hard to read a different genre right now, then I suppose it’s a good thing that I am not planning a trip to the beach anytime soon, even though I only live about 2 hours away. In fact, could this whole beach bag lists also work if you are going to the lake instead? Every August we go to the Lake House…hmmmm for some reason, these reads listed below seem like BEACH reads and LAKE reads seem like they would allow for slightly deeper reads… hmmm interesting. What do you think? Would lake books be different from beach books? ok here is my list of beach books:
- Rome by Jay Crownover
- One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker
- Rush Too Far by Abbi Glines
- Taking Chances by Mollly McAdams
- Finding It by Cora Carmack
Julie’s List of Books In Her Beach Bag:
So honestly, I don’t really read different books on the beach than I would at home. I’ve never understood the “beach read” concept. I just read what I’m reading. Also, I don’t really have much beach or pool time since I work full time. But let’s see if I can think of some of the books I’ve read at the beach or pool in the past (as in, maybe during summer break from skewl).
- Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley
- Daughter of Fortune by Isabelle Allende
- The House of the Spirits by Isabelle Allende
- The Thirteenth Tale by Dianne Setterfield
- Lifeguard by James Patterson
I’m like you, Julie — I don’t really mind what kinds of books I read during which season. Who cares if I’m reading a dark and depressing book on a hot, sunny beach, right? 😀
Rose: I read TEN TINY BREATHS and really liked it, even though I don’t have a particularly good history with NA books. So hopefully ONE TINY LIE is just as good, too! And gosh, I really do need to get to Cora Carmack’s books. I’ve heard nothing but amazing stuff about her LOSING IT series, and that blurb is both awkward and interesting at the same time. I’m all for awkward situations, ahaha.
Julie: Hmm, I saw THE THIRTEENTH TALE and immediately went to check it out on Goodreads (yup, I’ve never heard of it before), and it sounds great! I’m not one to read adult books — more often than not I lose interest in them — but since this is mystery, and a really original- and complex-sounding one, I’m actually really intrigued. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. 🙂
I haven’t read any of the books on both your lists, so I can’t comment much, but I still hope you have a fantastic summer! Looking forward to both your reviews!

I read The Thirteenth Tale way before I became a blogger so I don’t have a full review of it. But I loved it. I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads.
I hope I like One Tiny Lie, too. KA Tucker is coming to the indie book store near my house at the end of this month, so I would like to read more of her books before I meet her.
The Thirteenth Tale is such a great book – it could be a beach books!

It is a bit heavy for what most people consider a beach read, but it is a really great story.
Ooo ladies! Love your lists. I’ve not read any of those particular books but love a couple of the authors and have a couple others on my endless tbr pile. lol

“Endless TBR pile” Yep, I know what you mean.
I love it when TTT asks for summer reading. I always find great things to read. Scarlet is a must read for me too. Thanks ladies.

I think we might be talking about a different book called Scarlett 😉 But hope you found some great books to add to your TBR with this week’s topic 🙂
You would think so since there is a lot of buzz about two different Scarlet’s in the book community. GWTW is a favorite and I have been wanting to read the sequel. I am curious to see if the author can keep with the same feel as Margaret Mitchell.

Oh ok, just wondering since you left off the second “t” in Scarlett. It had a very different feel to it, but I enjoyed it anyway. Different struggles in a different land. The mini series was stupid though and nothing like the book.
Yeah, I love summer reading lists… Of course, the concept of summer reading lists was a lot better whenever I had the summers off. I found this list a little tricky since I had not yet started my summer reading haha.
