Top Ten Books We Read in 2014

We decided it would be a good idea to post a 2014 wrap up of books we really enjoyed (and therefore recommend to our readers). Enjoy the lists below and let us know what your favorite reads in 2014 were.

Julie Review Avatar Julie’s List of Top Ten Books Read in 2014 (in no particular order):

I didn’t have a great year in books. Most of my reads turned out to be duds or just so-so. But here are a few that really made an impression. These are books I read this year, but weren’t necessarily released this year.

  1. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. This was a re-read prior to watching the movie.
  2. Secrets and Lies (Cassie Scot #2) by Christine Amsden.
  3. Breakable (Contours of the Heart, #2) by Tammara Webber.
  4. Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) and Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins.
  5. Uninvited by Sophie Jordan.
  6. Slammed (Slammed, #1) and Point of Retreat (Slammed, #2) by Colleen Hoover.
  7. Finding Cinderella (Hopeless, #2.5) by Colleen Hoover.
  8. Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo.
  9. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black.
  10. Unravel Me (Shatter Me, #2) by Tahereh Mafi.

2014 was the first year that I really started tracking and rating the books that I read. Here’s my list of the best books I read in 2014, but which were not necessarily published in 2014.

  1. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  2. Dreams of Gods and Monsters (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #3) by Laini Taylor
  3. Sins of a Wicked Duke (The Penwich School for Virtuous Girls #1) by Sophie Jordan
  4. Inspire by Cora Carmack
  5. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
  6. Reason to Breathe, Barely Breathing, Out of Breath (Breathing Series 1-3) by Rebecca Donovan
  7. Cress (The Lunar Chronicles #3) by Marissa Meyer
  8. Lord and Lady Spy (Lord and Lady Spy #1) by Shana Galen
  9. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
  10. Lucky Stiff (Lucky O’Toole #2) by Deborah Coonts

I also read and enjoyed the Hex Hall series, the Slammed series, Uninvited, and Breakable. I left these off my list to give you, our readers, more suggestions!
