No Book Buying Challenge 2015 – July Update

As you know, we are co-hosting the Show Your Shelves Some Love: A No Book Buying Challenge. You can also review the details of the post on theNo Book Buying Challenge page from the menu above.  For July, share a review of the best book you’ve discovered on your shelf that was a part of this challenge.

Julie Review AvatarJulie:

The best book I’ve read from my TBR is First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson #1) by Darynda Jones. It got me hooked on the series. I love the sassy main character as well as the super hot (literally) love interest. I’ve already reviewed it though 😉

I have embedded my Goodreads shelf so that I can share the books I read as I go.

Lynnpic avatar Lynn:  Wicked is the best book out of the ones I’ve read from my Shelf Love shelf. It started me on a Jennifer Armentrout kick. And granted, the others I’ve read haven’t been as spectacular, I am really looking forward to more in the series.

As for an update on my challenge, I read one book, and I’m almost finished with a second from my list. But also, I’ve decided it’s a good thing we aren’t counting free books. I’ve downloaded a bunch of free books this month from Audio Sync and free one-click books from Amazon. And I feel a little guilty about this. But I’ll probably get over it. I’m just glad I have a shelf dedicated to books that I actually own. It’s decreased my chances of downloading a book I already own. Even if the count is getting higher than at the beginning of the year. I haven’t actually purchased any books.

Rose review avatar Rose: So I really need to read more! Argh! But I did manage to read two books this past month that I already owned. One was What If by Rebecca Donovan and the other was the third Game of Thrones book. I liked the third book, but some parts definitely dragged on and on. What If was okay, but sort of a disappointment. I mean, I really loved Rebecca Donovan’s previous works, so I suppose this one just didn’t measure up. Okay, so 2 books down and a bajillion to go!!!!

  1. Julie, I have *got* to start Jones’ series. I’ve had First Grave on the Right since it released! And you’re really enticing me to read it. 🙂 Lynn, free books = no guilt!! I need to read more JLA. 😉 Rose, I’m sorry that both your books have been kind of letdowns. That stinks. But the good news is that you have many more to read so there are bunches of chances of finding one that WOW’s you! 🙂

I think you’ll like it so yea since you’ve had it forever, this makes a good Shelf Love read for you 🙂

  2. Lynn, have you read Don’t Look Back by Jennifer Armentrout? It is really good, I read and reviewed it on my blog recently. I also read and reviewed Wicked, but I wasn’t in love with it. The only reason I even read another of her books is because she is my friends favorite author and we met her at a book event. Only seemed fair to give her another shot, and I loved Don’t Look Back.

Julie, I am going to have to check out that series. I love sassy characters!

Rose, 2 books in a month is great progress! I have wanted to read the Game of Thrones series, but thought it might drag out. Think I will stick with watching the show. LOL

I haven’t read Don’t Look back, Kaitlin. It looks good, though. And I understand what you mean about liking some of her books, and not others. But good for you for giving her another shot. And I agree with just watching Game of Thrones. I stopped after the second book.
