Let’s talk about the lesser-known authors/titles that you think everyone should read.
Julie:
I think people should check out the YA books written by a fellow book club lady, Kimberly Russell. I found all her books to be tasty to gobble up while exploring some serious topics.
Lynn:
I’ve been struggling for ideas for this post all week. Are we just talking about independent authors here? I’m not one of those people who track Twitter followers or Facebook likes. Is there a minimum number before an author is “famous”? Even authors like John Green, Colleen Hoover, or Rainbow Rowell were once unknown to me until someone suggested their books. I think that’s what makes readers special – they are always on the look out for other books, and always willing to suggest new authors or titles to other readers. Book clubs apply here as well. When a group of people get together with varied interests, I am always learning about new authors. So here’s a list of authors you may not have heard about. But should check out.
1) Shannon Hale
2) Gwyn Cready
3) Deborah Coonts
What about everyone else? Any author ideas you can think of to suggest to readers?
I hadn’t heard of Kimberly Russell so I’ll check her out. I adore Shannon Hale. Even her young reader books are great! Hmm, I’m trying to think of authors that aren’t all over…I like Jim Fergus – he writes historical fiction and I don’t think he’s *that* well known. I’ve been really enjoying Dannika Dark, who is a Texas author and writes PNR. If I think of any others, I’ll check back. 😀

You know I love me some local Texax authors, so I’ll have to look Dannika Dark up 🙂
I’ll have to check those out. I would recommend J.C. Daniels (UF), Eve Langlais (humor, PNR), E.J. Stevens (UF).

Those are great suggestions. I will check those out. I am so bad at giving advice on lesser well known authors. My mind just goes blank when I am asked something like that.

Franny Billingsley ans Annette Curtis Klause – off the top of my head. The Silver Kiss made me fall in love with vamps 🙂

My list would include a few local authors that I’ve met!
Dennis W. Green: crime with a science fiction twist
A.R. Miller: urban fantasy
Michael Koogler: horror, fantasy
Jed Quinn: ya paranormal, adult fantasy

Thanks for the recommendations, Terri. And Dennis, for sure!
I’ll be seeing Dennis in a couple weeks at ICON 40, Lynn. My friend, sister and I have something Traveler/Prisoner themed planned for him! I’ll be sure to take pictures.

The first that comes to mind is the Addicted series by Krista and Becca Ritchie. I see these mentioned so rarely. These twin sisters have created an amazing series centered on a group of characters who are so flawed and so real. I am so invested in their stories and will be sad to see the series end.
