Do you read fanfiction? Or, do you write it? What are your thoughts on fanfic in general?
Julie:
I can’t say that I’ve read very much fanfiction. I guess I’m more interested in the stories themselves, then a reading what a fan’s does with the characters and story world. I realize that the Fifty Shades series started out as a Twilight fanfiction, so that might really be the only fanfiction I’ve read, though I never read the original fanfic before it got published (and don’t really want to). I think it is fine if people want to take their favorite characters and run with them to create a new story and can see why people enjoy writing fanfiction, but I guess I don’t see why other people enjoy reading it. There’s much better official writing and stories out there just waiting to be discovered, and my TBR is long enough already.
Lynn:
Outside of Fangirl or Fifty Shades, I haven’t read any fanfic. It’s not that I’m opposed, it’s just that, like Julie, I just don’t have the time. Plus, I don’t even know how to actually find fanfic out there. I’m sure there are websites and all, but how do you know what’s good and worth reading? Do you read fanfic? Maybe if someone recommended something that was good, I’d take a chance and try it out.
I’m not opposed to fanfiction – writing it or reading it. I haven’t read any besides Fifty. And I’m with y’all on the size of my tbr…don’t really *need* to add anything else. 😉

I have to say that although the idea is not without appeal to me, I’ve never found the time to actually sit down and read fan fiction. I’m sure it would be entertaining though! Another wonderful idea for a post! Merry Christmas <3

Thanks, Ramona. And yes, if there was only more time in the day! Merry Christmas to you, as well!
I don’t read fanfic but I just found a list of the best Harry Potter fanfic and I pinned it in case I ever can get around to checking some of it out.

Good idea, Kaitlin, pinning the post to go back to when you have time.
I’ve always been pretty much against reading fanfiction. As stated, there are lots of books on my TBR, and I need to read those.
But, my cousin and I used to write a crossover Beyblade x Sailor Moon fanfic years ago. I kinda lost interest in it myself, causing her to as well, and we just stopped. I still didn’t like reading fanfiction, and never have, but I do make an exception to read my cousin’s HP fanfics.
There are several Pulled-2-Publish fanfics that become popular book series, though, such as *Fifty Shades of Grey (series)* (Twilight fic), *Beautiful Bastard (series)* (Twilight fic), and *After (series)* (1D fic). I don’t have any real need to read those, either.
But, in the manga fandom, there are a lot of fan comics. These are called doujinshi. And, alot of them are based around LGBT pairings. I suppose you could consider those illustrated fanfics or “manga fanfics”. I have read alot of *Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon* doujins. So, in that aspect, I do occasionally read some of those.
I’ve heard about After, Holly. And i do wonder if it’s any good. But not being a 1D fan, that doesn’t have much appeal to me, either.
I think it would have t be a fandom I really like to take the plunge, and then again there’s the time thing, like you say. I hardly have enough time now LOL. I think when I was younger (a teen) I might have been more inclined to read and/ or write fanfic, since I felt so strongly about certain worlds back then. I think if there was a really good fanfic though I might give it a try… just to see what others can do with familiar concepts.
Fifty Shades was based on Twilight fanfic? I didn’t know that… 🙂

Not the vampire parts of Twilight, Greg. The rich boy parts! and the setting in the Northwest U.S. And the naive girl, always biting her lip.
And I agree with you, maybe fanfic is more for the younger set, especially if a reader feels so strongly about the work.
I have not knowingly read any fanfic. I haven’t even read Fifty Shades of Grey. Like you, I just don’t get it. There are some that do well. I guess to each his own.

yes, Melanie, exactly. To each his own.
Time! I wish I had more time! 🙂 I’ve also gathered that it is quite difficult to find quality fan fiction. And that alone scares me away from it. That and usually, when I’m done with a series I’m done with it. I don’t wish to live in that world any longer.

Agreed, Terri. I am usually ready to move on when I’m finished with a series as well.
