For Mother’s Day, let’s chat about our favorite literary Mothers!
Julie:
Happy Mother’s Day! I’m very close with my own mom, and now that I’ve become one, I totally get how awesome moms are 😉 It is fun to read about great mothers, too.
Of course, we have to start off with Molly Weasley, from Harry Potter. With a huge clan of her own, she all but adopts Harry into her family and has time and love for everyone.
I also loved Hazel Grace’s mom (The Fault in Our Stars). Always supportive and there for her daughter, no matter what.
Lynn:
When we originally decided on this topic, I thought, great! How difficult would it be to think of some great moms from literature. Turns out very difficult! There is a significant lack of positive mothers in books which I’ve read. There are the absent ones. The evil step ones. I thought of two immediately. The other took some major effort.
First, and always, Molly Weasley. I don’t think Harry could have found a better surrogate mother.
Second, Grandma Mazur from the Stephanie Plum series. A literal gun-toting grandma.
She’s one of the best characters in the whole series. Any scene is made better with her in it!
Third, let’s talk about Sky’s Aunt Karen from Hopeless. She may not have been the best mom, with keeping Sky away from technology (no cell phones) and people (home schooled), she did have the best of intentions.
How about you? Know of any great moms from literature?
Like Lynn, I’m having a hard time thinking of great moms (besides Molly Weasley, of course). Just went and glanced at Goodreads, though, and the most recent good mom I read about was the mom in the Hex Hall series. I loved how she always put Sophie first!

Ooh good call on the Hex Hall mom!
I love the mom from the Ramona the Pest series. Somehow she survived raising a Pest like Ramona. 🙂
I also like the grandmother from the Sookie Stackhouse series. She was always so supportive of Sookie.

Both great suggestions. Thanks, Terri!
