Let’s all embrace our inner Geek and share what makes us geek out!
Julie:
Geeking out is great fun. It is even more fun to geek out with some friends, and all be silly laughing messes together. True story. Let’s see, some of my most memorable geeking out moments include:
- Going to the Supernatural convention in Dallas and geeking out with hubby during the panels. And and and – the famous family photo – the one with me and my husband, and my giant pregnant belly, with Jensen and Jared. Yep, that family photo is hanging in my hallway. Near my other family photos. Because yes.
- Flying to Portland with Rose to geek out over Colleen Hoover’s release of Maybe Someday, and watching the concert live! That’s right, Griffin Peterson performed all the music during the release party.
- Comicpalooza, where I mostly followed around all the author panels and was quite book nerdy.
- Teen Book Con because books and YA and authors, and all the panels and ALL THE AUTHORS!
*SIGH* I miss going to events and geeking out.
Lynn:
If geeking were an Olympic event, I think I’d have a pretty good chance of making the team. Or I’d at least be at home watching!
My most recent geek moment was an author liking my tweet. Yes, it’s the little things in life. But that made me super happy!
I love when authors interact with readers, even on such a small scale. 😀
And I agree with Julie. Teen Book Con is great! Especially because it is like a reward to teens who read.
In addition to Julie’s and Rose’s trip to Portland, we also met Colleen Hoover and Griffin Peterson, in addition to many other authors, in Austin. That trip was my first experience at a massive book signing AND my first trip to Buc-Ees (a Texas icon if there ever was one). And despite all the lines, we had a great time. We bought way too many books. Rose felt up Griffin. We almost wrecked the car to stop for a giant squirrel on the way home. An overall great day!
How about you? Any geeky experiences you want to share?
I LOVED that Colleen Hoover event – seriously one of the best author events I’ve ever been to. And Griffin Peterson was amazing. I saw it here in Chicago, and he had family come to the event, which was really kind of fun to see him interacting with them.
The RT Convention is one of the best I’ve ever been to – we all geeked out big time (I even made myself a steampunk costume!).

Um, my comment would be a mile long. I’ve started attending sci-fiction/fantasy conventions about 3 or 4 years ago so I have plenty of geeking out moments. I just helped plan and execute an author signing event in my town. And I’m going to WorldCon next month.
I’ve been in the same room as Mark Oshiro, George R.R. Martin and Brandon Sanderson and many more…
(Oh, and I cosplay.)

Yes, you certainly have some awesome Geeking out activities under your belt :):)
Oh and JR FREAKING Ward liked 3 of my Tweets in a one-week period. I COULD. NOT. CONTAIN. MY. EXCITEMENT either of those times!!!!
Wow! JR Ward! Now that is exciting!!
I agree with the JR Ward sentiment! That’s great to have 3 tweets liked in one week!
Yaaaassss! =)
I think I’d join Lynn on the Olympic Geeking Out team, lol! One of my recent geeking out experiences was caving and buying photo ops for the first time ever at a fan convention. I had been to the Breaking Dawn parts 1 & 2 fan conventions and not once did I consider buying a photo op. At The Vampire Diaries & Originals fan convention in Las Vegas in 2014, my soul sista and fellow geek Stephanie insisted I be in her photo op picture with Charles Michael Davies and Daniel Gillies. Then at June’s TVD & Originals fan convention here in Los Angeles, she insisted again that I be in a photo op with Charles Michael Davis and Andrew Lees. I was hooked! I handed over my bank card for photo ops with Ian Somerhalder (a solo and a group w/Michael Malarkey), Paul Wesley (a solo and a group w/Chris Wood), Charles Michael Davies (a solo and a group w/Andrew Lees) and Michael Malarkey (a solo and a group w/Ian Somerhalder) while praying it wouldn’t be declined for lack of funds.
I also geeked out a bit at the RT Booklovers Convention back in April when I met some of my top favorite authors for the first time ever (Christina Lee, Helena Hunting & Mr. Hunting – he picked my name in a giveaway to win Clipped Wings which was my introduction to his wife’s novels, Wendy Higgins, Sawyer Bennett, Madeline Hunter, and Mary Jo FREAKING Putney, squee!) and a couple of bloggers (Aestas Book Blogger, Natasha is Book Junkie & Vilma’s Book Blog).
