Hey, it’s almost Speak Like a Pirate Day! Also, rum punch day. Let’s chat all things pirate – books, rum drinks, etc.
Julie:
So rum is my ROH drink of choice. Malibu to be precise. With some diet coke and that makes me happy. Or something fruity and in a pretty glass.
As for pirate books – I haven’t read that many. Pirates are awesome! Hook from Once Upon a Time anyone?
And of course Captain Jack Sparrow.
A character in bookish form that comes to mind is undead pirate Jean Lafitte from the Sentinels of New Orleans series. Because undead pirates are cool. Also, there are pirates in Voyager (Outlander series). I can’t think of any others in books I’ve read.
There are tons and tons of pirate books shelved on Goodreads. And more with the category of Pirates. And also this list. Which have you read?
Lynn:
I’m pretty sure that I’ve read some pirate historical romances. Who hasn’t!?! And I’ve had Rogue Pirate’s Bride on my shelf to read for a while. (I’ll get to that eventually!) As as Julie already mentioned the pirates in Voyager, I’ll talk about the pirates in Red Seas Under Red Skies. Locke and Jean and some cats. On a boat. How much more fun could a book be?
I think piracy is a bit like drinking. You want to stay out all night doing it, you pay the price the next day.
But mostly, it’s Hook from Once Upon a Time that I think of when I think of pirates.
And honestly, I’m not interested in episodes without him. Though, this upcoming season with Jafar might give Hook a run for his money. (But that’s more about my slight obsession with Oded Fehr than the character.)
And can we discuss the guy-liner and movie/tv pirates? I’m totally for it, don’t get me wrong. But I do wonder if actual pirates wore so much!
I’m with you guys on Hook! The only pirate book I’ve read that I can think of off the top of my head is Treasure Island. My son and I enjoyed reading that one together!

I have that one I think but haven’t read it heh
Hrm, I’ve read Peter Pan and I’m a huge fan of Peter Pan movies. The book was pretty meh in my opinion. My favorite book set on a ship…The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Not sure if there were pirates or not though.
