#ShelfLove Challenge 2016
We’re co-hosting the #ShelfLove challenge again this year so join us and read more of the books you already bought!
December 2016/January 2017: End of the Year Check in Post. Look back at your June and January posts and let us know how you did this year. Share an updated picture or list of your TBR pile. Would you do the challenge again in 2017?
Julie’s Challenge Update:
In case you’re wondering, I totally bombed this challenge. I’ve read like 11 books? And my goal was 21-30. So… fail. But hey, that’s 11 books off my TBR, and that counts for something.
Okay, well maybe totally bombed isn’t the right word. I have gotten excellent at not buying books. I have bought very few books. Since I have little time to read, I have stopped spending money on things that will collect dust, virtual or physical. So that’s a win.
Would I do it again in 2017? Sure, why not! Maybe I’ll do better. Or maybe not, but still, fun times, right?
Lynn’s Challenge Update:
I bombed on this challenge as well, with 16 books read from my goal of 21-30. I keep thinking to myself, how hard can it be to read books that I already own? Turns out, very difficult. All the shiny new books keep grabbing my attention. Between book club and review books, I’m struggling to keep up.
I agree with Julie on the challenge encouraging me to not buy as many books. I’m doing much better with that portion of the challenge. I have cut down on buying considerably. Especially all the free or $0.99 books. That’s a big step. If I’m not about to read it, I tend to not buy it.
I’m for continuing the Shelf Love Challenge. I like the feeling when I can add a book to my completed shelf love shelf. And once I put my library cards in the freezer, maybe I’ll actually succeed.

Baby steps, baby steps! Remember that picture I took in like June? I only have ONE book left from that stack! So while I didn’t meet my overall goal, I’ve nearly gotten physical books old than 2016 off my shelf.

I forgot to include what my original goal was for this year – I just looked it up! LOL I aimed for 51+ and I’ve read 69 so far so I did well. If only I could STOP one-clicking all the freebies. I’ve decided I’m going to unsubscribe from those emails because I obviously can’t resist temptation. :/
I call 11 and 16 books a win because getting any number off the TBR shelf is a win in my book! And kudos to you both for being able to refrain from buying. That takes some willpower. 🙂
I’m glad you’ll both do this challenge again next year. I’m going to as well. It certainly is a good feeling!

I also bombed this challenge, as well as a couple others. I set my sights way too high for this challenge this year at 51+. I am currently going to clock in at 20 and maybe squeeze in a couple more before the end of the year.
I’ve ended up giving up on my goals, at least as far as numbers go. It was just getting stressful! But I have read over 150 books that I owned prior to this year, so that’s definitely something — it’s only a failure compared to the ambitious goal of getting 200 read!

That was an ambitious goal! You have done awesomely this year though!
I … can’t … admit … to failure … yet.
Okay, so I’ve only read 12 books so far (and I’m totally going to fail), but I still have a month, right? Maybe a miracle will occur and I’ll read nine books that have been on my shelf for a year this month. You just never know.
(Yes, I do know. But I can keep pretending for the remainder of this month.)

Yea, we can still keep pretending for the rest of the month, I’m cool with that 🙂
