I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by Terry Maggert. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
I was definitely a fan of the first book in the Halfway Witchy series, and much of what I enjoyed there is true in the sequel. Carlie is a kick-ass little witch. Tiny, but tough and brave. Sassy but classy, and an excellent diner cook. I do love her attitude, because she’s so real and honest in her reactions and emotions. I also love Gran, what an amazing character who supports her granddaughter and allows her to lead the way as she continues to grow as a powerful witch, but always providing guidance and backup when needed.
I also enjoyed getting more of the half-vampire half-viking love interest, though I wanted even more than we got. He was romantic and supportive, a good book boyfriend. But.. I wanted more. I wanted more romance between the characters, more emotion, especially at the end. I wanted to feel the spark and heat between them, not just read about it. So something was missing for me.
Now let’s chat about the plot. We have a circus in town, with clowns and creepy music. A perfect scene for a few crimes. Though the plot wasn’t as twisty and turny as in the first book, there were some interesting reveals and an epic battle scene at the end. Battle scenes are not without loss and sacrifice, though, and we do have a sad turn of events. I was sad, but not as much as I would want to be if the build up to that point was more for me. Still devastating though if we don’t see a resolution in a future book.
And now for the narration – yes another excellent audio book. I enjoy this narrator’s voice – it is great to listen to, pleasant, and clear. I can’t say if the emotion I was missing could have been amplified by the narrator, she did do a good job with voices and attitudes of all the characters.
Overall, a good read. I’d give it a 3.5 for sure, and am looking forward to the next one.

I’m not sure I would like this book, but i love the author bio. Besides being original, he loves cats 🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed this installment overall despite feeling like a little something was missing which kept you from “feeling” things. I get that. But Carlie sounds like a great heroine and I adore having a strong grandma in a story so I think I’ll give this series a go. 🙂
