We’re starting a new feature here on Chapter Break called Chat About Covers. ‘Cause you know we all judge books by covers, whether we admit it or not. We judge the style, the color and font choices, and just the overall look. That might not keep us from reading the book, but we do still judge.
I’m actually currently listening to this one as an Audiobook Boom/Blast review option. And interestingly the cover on my Audible app is way different than what is on Goodreads and Amazon.
So anyway, guess I’ll focus the chatter here on the cover you see above.
I’m just gonna start out saying gorgeous! The combination of red firey sparkling electricity with the greyscale mirror frame is really working here. And since I just got to the part where this makes sense, I am extra intrigued. And it does give it a dystopian world feel, which is exactly what this book is. The cover has a Nekro style feel to it.
Also, the ball gown. So it is a trope that book covers have chicks in ballgowns. But, she awakens from her 100-year slumber wearing one, not knowing why. So again, it works.
I like the font, too. Both the author’s name and the title. It’s curly without being awkward. It’s just enough text. Well-done cover artist.
My complaint? She looks too perfect. And you can’t see any freckles on her skin, which is kind of important (since that’s what her nickname becomes). And her hair doesn’t look red. I mean, the glow looks red, but it looks like it’s coming from the glow effect but not her actual hair color.
My initial thoughts? I really like this cover. It definitely catches my attention right away, especially the mirror and the electricity. Those really draw my eye. I like the title font as well, especially the fancy M.
I’m with Julie as well on the cover model. She does look too perfect, and a bit fae. Is she supposed to be Fae?
I would say the cover intrigues me enough to check out this book. Or at least wait til Julie finishes so I’ll know if it’s worth reading!
What are your thoughts on this cover?
I like this cover although I do think there’s an awful lot going on in it. But if Julie says it all makes sense with what’s behind the cover then… 🙂 This cover would definitely catch my attention.
