Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is wonderful! Every working mom needs to read this book. So much encouragement and great advice to thriving as a working mom and avoiding being stretched too thin.

If I Run: Not bad actually. I thought The Chemist did a similar story better, though. The audio narration was bad, however. The narrator didn’t really differentiate between characters. The only way I could tell that the POV switched was with the chapter headings. I did find it hilarious that Grace (the main female character) is on the lam, concerned about paying her taxes and what happened to the person who’s identify she’s using. Cliffhanger ending has me intrigued enough to think about reading the next book in the series.

Starship Grifters (Rex Nihilo #1): Great space-capade. Chuckling adventure to find the balance in chaotic equilibrium. The total light palate cleanser that I needed this summer. It was a bit slow at the beginning. Once the plot and adventure takes off, I was hooked. Highly recommended if you like humor. Or space. Or robot narrators. Plus, who needs a full cast recording when you have Kate Rudd reading to you. She does a fantastic job with all the different characters.

Emergency Contact: I can see how this book has received a bunch of either 1 Star or 5 Star reviews on Goodreads. I’m pretty much solid in the middle with 3 stars. Mostly, I feel like I’m not the target audience for this book. It reads like it’s geared towards high school\college age readers. Lots of current language and text messaging. Not a lot of IRL interpersonal talking. But I think my main issue is the slow pace. I kept waiting for something, anything, to happen during the plot. It’s more talking than acting.

The Coincidence of Coconut Cake: Sweet, light, and fluffy. Just like coconut cake should be. With the bonus recipe at the end of the book. I love how Lou’s chef-ness comes through. She really has me missing the Midwest and cheese curds. I also really enjoyed how Milwaukee is almost like another character in the book. Everything about this book works for me. I’ll totally be checking out more books by Ms. Reichert.
