Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!

Vamp City:   I received a complimentary copy of this book. I enjoyed the audio narration, the voices and accents were good and I liked the quality of the narrator’s voice, especially for the main character. The plot itself was just ok. Lots of LA Vamp gang wars. Lots of battles. But, it was choppy and not engaging. Also, the random flashbacks came out of nowhere and were not transitioned well. Overall, just an OK read.

The Love That Split the World. A #bookclub book. Good premise. Interesting beginning. And then steep decline in the middle. Timey-Wimey. With characters breaking all the rules of time travel. Lots of teenage angst. The fact that only 2 of the 6 of us in book club finished should tell you how we all felt about this book. Hard pass.

Artemis Enjoyable, but not as much as The Martian. I wasn’t as moved by the characters or the story. I really did like Jazz, with her whole not living up to her potential lifestyle and sassy attitude. And Mountie Rudy is a great foil to Jazz’s lawless behavior. I’m just assuming that the science is correct. Most if it is way beyond my level. I do think Mr. Weir does a great job of explaining the science of living on the moon to us non-astrophysicists. Living on the moon holds no appeal for me now! Rosario Dawson’s audio narration is great. A fun science romp.

Runaways, Vol. 2: Best Friends Forever: I love the story. It’s very clever and character driven. We see the team getting back together. I’m still struggling with the non-linear reading that is graphic novels. I do think Kris Anka’s drawings really compliment the story. Overall, very enjoyable.

Turbo Twenty-Three: Or as I like to call it, the one where Lulu steals the spotlight in every scene. She slays here with her whole Naked and Afraid in Trenton idea!  I do think I’m enjoying this book more than the last two Stephanie Plum adventures. Taking a break helped me miss the characters. Though, honestly, I’m getting a bit tired of the whole Ranger > Stephanie > Morelli situation. I’ve also realized that time must move very slowly in these stories. How else could Rex the hamster still be alive, given that the first novel was published in 1994!
