Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Well I reviewed the only book I finished this month. So you can see that below.
Time’s Convert: I was planning on writing an actual review for this, but time (hahahaha) got away from me. So mini review it is! If you are a fan of the All Souls Trilogy, this is the book for you. If you are thinking that Time’s Convert is just Marcus’s story, you would be wrong! It’s so much more. We catch up with Matthew and Diana. Ysabeau, Sarah, and Agatha are there as well. Plus Gallowglass! (I swear, if Gallowglass does not end up with his own story and happy ending, I’m going to be verra angry! 😡 ) One of the aspects of Ms. Harkness’s books that I love best is how she folds her characters into actual history. This time around, we have both the American and French Revolutions. The audio narration was mostly good. I had some issues with Matthew’s voice. It’s just that now I picture Matthew Goode as Matthew Clairmont, and it’s only his voice that I want to hear. I am so ready for the Discovery of Witches TV series to start!
Christmas at Twilight : I was looking for a Christmas-y, warm, holiday romance. Mostly to cross off some bingo squares! Christmas at Twilight hooked me in right away. Wounded soldier. Woman on the run from her ex-husband. With a great meet-cute with pepper spray! The action-y twist towards the end was predictable. But the sparks between Hutch and Meredith made the book come alive for me. Plus, cute kids alert! Overall, an enjoyable read.
I’ve also finished Renegades. But Julie hasn’t, so review in January for that one!
Books we reviewed this month:
I got own my local library’s waiting list for Time’s Convert because I did read the original trilogy books. I thought I’d be on the waiting list for an audiobook copy (my preferred reading format especially for her writing style) for months. Instead, the previous library patrons zipped through it and a copy was checked out to me automatically. The timing is all wrong now because a local book buddy and I just started buddy reading the 5-book Premonition series by Amy Bartol.
I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Time’s Convert in audiobook format mostly though. And time got away with me on some many reviews that I marked “full review to come” or simply never added to my GoodReads currently shelf. I was scrambling last night to get them updated, reviewed and added toward my 2018 GoodReads Challenge. I finished right at 11:59 pm, whew!
