Mini Reviews Wrap Up April

Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!

I received this book complimentary as part of a tour.

“The Struggle is Real. Your Suffering is Optional.”

OMG this quote from Slay Like A Mother by Katherine Wintsch spoke to my soul. I have been enjoying curling up with this book and allowing it to motivate and validate my feelings as an exhausted, plate-too-full, working mom.

Motherhood is HARD. It’s overwhelming. Working full-time is hard. Doing both and trying to do both perfectly, is exhausting. There is SO much mental load.
That’s why Mamas you should grab this book at your local Walmart and get your mom-fidence back!

Last Shot: A Han and Lando Novel : Sometimes I need to read something completely different. Plus a baby Ben Solo alert. So adorable! I loved the audio on this book. Three different narrators for the three different story lines, one of which was the author. All of the narrators did a great job with the characters. The book also has all the bleeps, blaster fire, and other background noises I could want. (Except for the tie fighters, which I used to have as a ringtone on my phone. Now, every time I hear it, I think I’m missing a text message!) I don’t know what Wookie or Ewok look like in print, but the languages were well done in audio. The story is well-written and follows the Star Wars cannon well. I really enjoyed exploring more of the Star Wars stories and will certainly be looking into others in the series.

The Pursuit (Fox and O’Hare #5) : Enjoyable listen while Nick and Kate, and more importantly, Kate’s Dad!, save the world from terrorists. I love the globe-trotting and adventures.

The Ice Limit: Meh. I just could not with this book. Oh, I finished it. But it was a major slog. I didn’t care about the characters. There wasn’t that much ‘adventure’ that I found. By the end, I was rooting for the meteor just to end the book. Then, to top it off, there is an epilogue, which sets up another book. I’ll be hard passing on that.

Fate’s Fables: I marked this one as DNF and I’m not afraid to admit it. Beware the other reviews is my recommendation. I just could not with the characters, the plot, and the whining. Only 1 person out of 8 of us at book club actually finished, and that’s saying something.

  1. Slay Like a Mother sounds awesome, Julie! Thanks for sharing about it. Love that quote! I’ve not read Evanovich or Preston & Child but I hope to someday. And thanks for the *warning* for Fate’s Fables, Lynn. I really don’t like it when I pick up a book based on good reviews and then wonder what all those people read when I can’t stand the story…
