Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
[Editor’s Note: Julie moved this month. No time for reading! ~Lynn]
Truth or Beard (Winston Brothers #1: Super steamy and very enjoyable. I’d say fluffy, but it does have an emotional punch. Duane and Jessica’s romance is very believable. Worth checking out. Plus, with 6 more Winston siblings, plenty more stories to read! The covers are adorable. I love how the silhouettes and beards evoke the main characters.
From Twinkle, With Love: In a random happenstance, I managed to pick up two books at the same time with roughly the same plot: Girl secretly likes one twin, the other twin secretly likes girl. In this case, it’s high school crushes, and a lot less steamy! Overall, this was just ok for me. A LOT of teenager drama. I did enjoy how Twinkle writes journal entries to famous female film makers. That is clever. I did not really enjoy the teenage girl lack of self-confidence of Twinkle. Maybe because I never had the problem where I cared what other people think. But I will say that Twinkle makes strides in her personality by the end of the novel.
Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud, and the Last Trial of Harper Lee: I enjoyed the section about Harper Lee. The other two sections of the book, not as much. I did enjoy the random facts (Harper Lee lived next door to Hall and Oats!). I struggled with the audio, as my mind wandered while listening. Non-fiction is not a genre I read frequently, and with no plot or story line to move the novel forward, I had to rewind on more than one occasion to pick up the story.
