Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!

I have been reading a ton of children’s books since we have to read a book a day for Kindergarten camp. But have I been reading any books for me? Like one.

I received this audiobook for review. The Fae and the Fallen is the first installment in the Gifted Fae Academy. We are introduced to interesting characters, and the world-building of the fae and the un-gifted is quite interesting. I liked both our narrators and definitely want to know what happens to them. The majority of the book was high school drama, does he or does he not like me, etc. It took most of the book and didn’t move the plot forward much. The book ends in a curious bombshell reveal, and I want to see how our lady lead gets to and through to the dude. The audio was great, I loved the narrators and the voices. I would definitely listen to both of them again. Overall a 3.5 read.

Well, my reading has slowed down considerably in June. Here’s what I finished:

Jo & Laurie: Honestly, I probably would not have picked up this book if it were not for book club. I’ve never been a Jo & Laurie shipper. I did mostly enjoy this. It was slow to start, lots of talking and Jo’s anxiety over how to write her sequel to Little Women. Lots of flirty banter between the characters. The language has been modernized from the original, which is a plus. I did quite enjoy the Afterword by the authors. It was very informative. Check this out if you are a fan.

Beard in Mind: Of all the Winston brothers, I was least interested in Beau’s story. He’s the slick charmer of the group, and that’s never really been my type. (I am forever in love with Cleatus!) How wrong I was! Reading Beau and Shelly’s story was emotional and heartfelt. I was glad to read a love story with a female character who is straight-forward and dealing with mental health issues head-on. Beau shows great strength of character of his own, helping, and ultimately loving Shelly.
