Interview Questions

What inspired you to write and publish these Children’s books?

  • I’ll admit growing up I was behind the curve when it came to reading. The most impactful literature was always rhythmic. Fast-forward 15 years later, I find myself meeting children just like me. While rummaging through library bookshelves, I realize that there’s a lack of new rhythmic books. So I created Maggie, drew her by hand, and shared it. The response was so inspiring I decided to pursue writing.

Tell us more about your military affiliation and how that shaped your passion for writing Children’s books.

  • I’m a Navy Veteran. Joined straight out of high school, it was one of the most unique experiences of my life. It taught me that I’m capable, regardless of adversity.

What was your path to publication?

  • For many years I struggled to become traditionally published. When Covid-19 hit, parents were asking me for a copy of my book. That’s when I quickly made the decision to turn it into an eBook. It was the most direct way to positively & safely impact families with my writing.

Describe your writing process. Do you outline, plot and plan, or is your writing more organic?

  • My process is organic. Once inspiration strikes…watch out!

What are some of your favorite things about running your business/writing?

  • I like the way families respond to my work. I create every aspect of my books, and receiving positive feedback is a great validation.

What were some challenges you ran into when starting your business/writing?

  • Currently, marketing. It’s definitely challenging. I often feel stuck & out of my depth.

Share some advice for aspiring authors. What advice would you give to your younger self?

  • I often say, “If writing is something you want to do, just start! Don’t worry about misspellings, or format. Your first draft is just so you can remember all your brilliant ideas.”

Any advice you want to give fellow moms?

  • I think supporting and embracing all the unique outlets of a child’s mind is pivotal to development. I always credit my parent’s sacrifices for the cultivation of my imagination. That started with simply reading together.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

  • I love being outdoors. I truly feel in touch with my childhood wonder when I’m in the middle of the wilderness.

Maggie the Moose Runs Loose!
Sweet children’s book about a moose who visits the zoo, learns what makes each animal special, and what makes her special too. The book is told in lovely rhymes with pretty illustrations. Great pick.

Bao the Sleepless Panda

We loved reading about Bao and his fear of a monster under his bed. The story is told in lovely rhymes with beautiful illustrations. Our friend the Panda gets help from his wise friend, and faces his fear. I love that the other book we just read about Maggie the Moose plays a cameo. Great read for preschoolers and kindergarten age kids.
