Secrets of the Snow Globe
The Wonder of Color
After starting to collect snow globes with the help of her grandmother, Lily has questions. She wants to know who invented them, what the snow is made of, and how the tiny scenes look so magical when she peers inside. As she researches and experiments, Lily learns about light waves, magnification, and density—all while gathering ingredients to make her own snow globe.
where color comes from and how our eyes see it. As he experiments and reads, James learns about prisms, the color wheel, and light waves—all while working on his colorful contest entry.
I read Secrets of the Snow Globe with my 1st grader and we had a great time! He’s been learning about science topics in school so it was fun to have a conversation.
What I loved about this book is it introduces science topics in a fun way, letting our main character do experiments and look things up to learn how it works. Rather than having her parents and grandma quickly explain how it works, they encourage Lily to learn.
Lily learns the secrets of how a snowglobe works while learning about density. She recognizes that fish food floats to the bottom quickly in her fish tank, but the glitter in a snow globe falls much slower. That’s when she learns about other liquids soluble in water that change the density.
I loved the illustrations, such beautiful ways to show our characters as well as all her experiments. I loved the illustrations of her snow globe experiments and final globe the most. The book illustrates diverse characters and lovely pastels. The main character has a purple room so we’d get along.
I received the novel free in exchange for my honest review as part of this book tour.
& a snow globe making kit.

[…] Secrets of the Snow Globe: Child/Children, In a Series, […]
Love that it was a fun book to read together — those are the best! And I like the lesson it shows for kids to try figuring things out themselves instead of just asking for answers from an adult. (Lucky for you, one of the posts on the tour has instructions for making your own snow globe!) Thanks for the review!
