Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Ambitious Like a Mother: Why Prioritizing Your Career Is Good for Your Kids I absolutely agree with the premise of the book and the author’s preface resonated with me. But that was my favorite part. The rest of the book was written like a technical essay and I gotta say it took 2 months for me to get through it. Not my type of writing for leisurely reading material.
House of Breath and Sky: Well – I didn’t love this one. But nor did I hate it. The 800+ pages is just too much for one book to handle. On the plus side, the audio narration wasn’t horrible. But like always, the sexy time scenes in audio are just cringy for me. This is very much a second book\bridge to the series.
What I didn’t like:
- Too many side quests that didn’t seem to matter to the overarching story. Some of which were not resolved.
- Too many dudes. Other than Bryce, the female characters are regulated to secondary or tertiary status.
What I did like:
- Sarah Maas certainly has a type: wings and\or fae. And I am all for this.
- There is more world-building here, with discovery on more of the history of the society and the Asteri
- As much as there were too many dudes in this novel, I did appreciate learning more about Ithan, Tharion, and Ruhn.
A Dangerous Collaboration: Ah yes. Another Veronica Speedwell novel. I am loving this series. This time around, there is more backstory on the Templeton-Vane brothers, especially Tiberius. I liked the trapped on an island murder\mystery with a side of ghosts and danger. And I do love the delicious flirting between Stoker and Veronica. It’s very fun! Overall another winner.
