Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Hey be excited you’re getting full post reviews from me this month. Ok just one mini review too.
Finding Familiars: A Familiar Finders Society Book Finding Familiars is a cute story told in a sweet rhyme. My son and I enjoyed reading this as one of his nightly reading requirements – he’s always happy when an author gives us a children’s book to review. I have often called my previous kitty cat my familiar so he was intrigued by the concept. We enjoyed the lovely illustrations, especially the glowing animals that are familiars. I liked how the main character goes out in nature and talks about journaling, paying attention to what you can see and hear, and being kind to animals. Great lessons to learn in a fun way. I also like how this isn’t just a book, but there are so many coloring pages and activities available on the website as part of this series.
Kissing Tolstoy: Why, yes, I did thoroughly enjoy this listen! I know. Shocking. Given how many other books by Ms. Reid that I’ve loved. Loads of flirty banter, especially when it comes to Russian literature. Only slightly uncomfortable with the whole he’s her profession plot. But I think Luca (and Ms. Reid) do a great job of resolving that teacher\student power dynamic. The audio narration is well done. And only a few sexy scenes to cover my ears while listening. Worth checking out!
Kissing Galileo: In a rare for me, I did not love this one from Penny Reid. I didn’t really connect with the characters; perhaps Victor was a bit to close to the emotional bullseye for me. And a bit on the pervy\stalker side as well. This is also missing the humor that I always enjoy in Ms. Reid’s books. And what’s with the Galileo in the title? No stars were viewed. Though I guess there was some is Pluto a planet discussion. So maybe that qualifies as astronomy? We’ll call it not for me and be done.
The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels: Argh, mateys! I LOVED this book. 12 / 5 loved it! Clever. Original. Funny. Witty. Sassy. Flirty. Plus Lady Pirates who fly there houses with magic! And who worry about being afflicted by the scourge that is freckles. I highlighted so many passages while reading! (Cough. Cough. Read my TWHS post here.) Do yourself a favor and read this!
