Author Interview
At what point did you decide to be an author and what was your path to publication?
When I became a mum. My children inspired me to become an author and finally take the time to write a family cookbook.
Thanks to the new digital publishing options we were given great alternative paths to publication. I believe becoming an author requires focus, persistence and an open creative mind.
Share with us what it’s like to write a cookbook (vs say a novel).
Writing a children’s cookbook is a lot of fun as you can try your own recipes with your children and explore new spices & herbs. Cooking our Little Montessori Chefs recipes helps encourage our children to explore and discover through food and family meals, even when they sometimes have to be quick and easy.
Describe your writing process. Do you outline, plot and plan, or is your writing more organic?
I usually let the content unfold naturally as I write. I start with a general idea or concept and let the book ‘develop’ as I write, without a detailed plan or outline to allow for more flexibility and creativity. What’s important for me is a consistent writing routine and to find an environment where I can stay focused and write without any distractions which can be challenging sometimes with 2 children.
What is your favorite line from your book?
Our time with our children is limited!
Both, practising the Montessori methods as well as the quality time spent cooking with my children, helped me understand the importance of creating a healthy balance between independence and emotional dependency. As parents, we want to be sure we’re raising independent children without sacrificing the love and bonding we crave, hoping that instead of escaping their home, our children will invite their friends to their home and want to spend time cooking, baking and enjoying homemade meals together even when they’ve grown up.
Share some advice for aspiring authors. What advice would you give to your younger self?
Thanks to the new digital publishing options we were given, publishing a book became easier and cheaper. There is never a ‘right time’ to start, just start and enjoy the flow and creative ideas that come to your mind the moment you start the first sentence of your book!
