For this discussion post, we joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week. Which book/series would make a great movie/tv series?
Julie:
I’m loving all the books turned into movies or TV shows in recent times. It’s great fun. There’s a series that I have loved and would love to see made into a TV show. I’d even have to upgrade to get HBO Go if they took this on.
Can you think of which book series I mean? I’ll give you a hint, I just finally finished the last book in the series.
It’s the Charley Davidson series. I would LOVE to see Charley, and Reyes, and Cookie, and even Uncle Bob brought to life on the screen. There’s so much sass, sarcasm, and smexy times, in addition to urban fantasy badassery and ghost and demon story lines. It would make a great one. For real!
Lynn:
As one of the few people on the planet who watched the cancelled too soon Vampire Academy series this year, I’m on the fence with all the movies and tv series being made from books.
Sure, I’ve love the Outlander series (and I’m behind so no spoilers!), the Shadowhunters series, and the recently released Shadow and Bone series. In the case of Shadow and Bone, I liked the tv series better than the books! These all work great as series because the books are way too expansive to work as a movie. (Looking at you, the Mortal Instruments and Vampire Academy movies!)
But I also take them with a grain of salt. The stories are altered enough to make them interesting to the reader, but also interesting to the casual viewer. I’m certainly not one of those viewers decrying all the changes. Well, maybe SOME of the changes! 😉
I think we’ve all seen enough movies from books that are a complete disaster as to warrant hesitation on additional movies. But let’s be honest. I’d watch the heck out of the Finlay Donovan series on tv. I think that would translate well. No mythical creatures. Some good action. And some laughs. I’d also watch the heck out of the Rajes books by Sonali Dev. Some romance and emotions. But MODERN. And multi-cultural. And, like Bridgerton, enough stories in the series to make multiple seasons.
What about you? Any books you’d really like to see as a series or movie?

I love that so many books are being turned into movies and TV shows nowadays!

OH… I almost put Rajes books by Sonali Dev on my list, too!
I do love fantasy book series, but I agree that it could be hard to capture the entire story on screen. But it’s been done with much success, so maybe Charley would be a great show! The series is so much fun!
