Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Mini Book Reviews
The upheaval of my life has begun so just one quick short mini review. BUT, you get a few full reviews from me this month! Check them out in the list below.
Foreverywhere The book was cute, a silly fantasy tale of creatures and rock bands. But the best part was the full cast performance of the audiobook, the sound effects, and the actual music and instruments played in the audiobook. A great freebie from Audible, worth a listen to enjoy a kids story that is really well performed.
CHERISH: I think this was a case of way too hyped up to read. It was ok – but not as awesome as I was expecting. Reads like a set of trials that Greek Gods are prone to. Do A to get to B. But B didn’t really make a difference. Now do C to get to D. I had less than two hours left and still no resolve to the big plot points. That left the ending in the deus ex machina predictable wrap up\ending. I did enjoy Heather, the only human and practical one on the adventure. The ending of the novel was satisfactory as an ending to the adventures of Grace and the team. I’m going with 3 1/2 Stars rounded up to 4.
QUIET IN HER BONES: Chalk this one up to book club. It’s not a genre or style that I would normally pick up. But I was thoroughly engaged while listening. Aarav is an unreliable narrator. Somewhat untrustworthy. But more due to traumatic brain injury and black-out inducing migraines than sketchy behavior. Though, there is some of that as well. The multi-ethnic supporting cast were also very engaging. Anything I say about the plot would be spoiler-y. But let’s leave it as lots of secrets going on in the cul-de-sac! Any lots of suspects in the disappearance of Nina ten years ago. Narrator Raj Varma’s accent and inflections work well with the New Zealand setting. Overall, I was very impressed with this book. Sometimes we need a genre flip to keep us engaged as readers.
Books we reviewed this month:
- [18 Jun] Magical Elements of the Periodic Table by Sybrina Durant ★★★★½
- [20 Jun] Death's Despair by Dennis K. Crosby

I’ve debated starting the Wolff series, but the books are so big and I have so much else to read that it is on the backburner. Still have to get them all for my school library students! Hope July is starting out well for you!
