For this discussion post, we joining the Book Blogger Hop at Coffee Addicted Writer. Here’s the topic for this week. How long does it usually take you to finish a book?
Julie:
Ohh I had to join this topic because as a book blogger this is a huge one for me. I get so jelly of the book bloggers that finish a book in a matter of days. For me? Reading time is limited. Real life is a big time commitment.
For this reason I mostly review kids books on here. Me and my son can read a children’s book quickly and I can give it a review. But when it comes to books that are hundreds of pages, well, that takes time. I do like to listen to audiobooks but with all my meetings and lack of quiet time when family is home, I might get an hour or so a day on a good day to listen. For print/ebooks it’s even harder. Sometimes I can only read for like an hour on a weekend day. Sometimes I get 15 minutes to read my kindle before bed.
But how long does it take to read a book in 15 minute or 1 hour blocks? Several days? Weeks?
Yes, sometimes weeks. It typically takes me a couple of weeks to read a full-length novel.
Lynn:
I, too, am shocked that people out there can read a book in a couple of days!
Actual reading speed depends for me. If it’s something I actually want to read and I have nothing else is going on, I can read 300 pages in a weekend. No problem. I read all 800 pages of HOUSE OF EARTH AND BLOOD in 8 days. If it’s something I’m bored with, it’s going to take me weeks. If not months. I’m looking at you, COLD MOUNTAIN. That book took me more than 6 months to read. And was horrible. And I’ve been ‘reading’ a book I got from NetGalley since February. I think I’m on page 23 or something like that.
Audio books are a whole other story. I can and do listen to a 10-12 hour book in a week. Granted, I do listen at 1.25 speed! It’s a lot easier for me to listen while doing other things like driving, working out, or cleaning.
What about you?

This book is a literary masterpiece, weaving a captivating tale that resonates long after the final chapter.

Oh this is interesting! So usually, I think I read a 300-400 page book in 2 days? More pages obviously longer. But this month I seem to be moving so SLOW! I think it is just less time? I usually try to get in an hour a day, but with school and work and kids’ activities and such, I have had very minimal time, so I am thinking that I am probably averaging less because of that. (Also, at my old job I used to be able to sneak a few minutes in here and there, but not the case anymore heh)

hah! Yeah. My job is also a time suck when it comes to sneaking in a few pages on lunch break!
