Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Mini Book Reviews
Happy Place: I read this for the JAG Law School Center (+Spouses) book club. It isn’t a genre I would usually pick, not a big romance/will they/won’t they/summer vacation type reader. AND, this book gave me all kinds of mad. I was so mad at Wyn, for his sudden betrayal and running away. And then I realized I’m like Harriet – both of us are high achieving type 9s – doing everything to make everyone around us happy but never voicing how we are feeling or hiding our struggles not to burden others.
COBALT BLUE: The perfect sort of book to read in an afternoon (which, tbh, is about the extent of my attention span these days). Short – 200 pages. ✔️ Heart pumping action ✔️ Plenty of character and plot development to quickly drawn me into the story ✔️Cobalt Gold is the best! Overall an excellent superhero story. As long as you don’t have a problem with rampant property destruction and death.
STAR BRINGER: Fair to middling opinion on this book. The ending did leave me interested enough to want to continue. But there was a lot of sex (GRAHIC SEX at that) and teenage drama for me to have lost interest through most of the book. The last couple of hours of the novel were the only ones I found engaging. Curious that there were 7 characters on the ship, but we only had four POV’s. And that was barely. The majority of the POV’s were Kali and Ian. I’d be interested more in Merrick’s or even the ship’s POV. The writing was fine. As well as the narration. The plot drags in places (see teenager drama above), especially with Ian’s singular determination to rescue Milla and avoid his feelings about Kali. Honestly, I’d recommend reading the Aurora Cycle books over this if you are looking for excellent sci fi.

I just started my first Emily Henry book on audio last week. I own her first two books but have yet to get to them. And I’m told I will love them. Oh well! Hope you have a good October!
