For this discussion post, we joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week. What is your favorite supernatural creature?
Julie:
So we’ve chatted between chapters about this once before, because paranormal creatures are fun!
I still love to read the urban fantasy genre because the variety of creatures and their powers is limitless. Sure, I enjoy the usual witch or vampire or demon story. But what I really enjoy is something more unique.
I love creatures that have a cool lore behind them and can be turned into really enjoyable characters. Creatures like banshees, dragons, phantoms, nightmares, and especially hybrid creatures. It’s really fun to read a story about a character who finds out they’re a hybrid of some really cool and creepy monster parents and their powers and abilities are as unique as they are.
So I guess I’m saying I don’t have just one favorite paranormal or supernatural creature, but I have a type – the more fun the backstory the better.
Lynn:
I don’t really know that I have a favorite supernatural creature? I’m a hard pass on vampires, generally. I don’t get the whole mermaid obsession. I do like a good dragon, though. I feel like I can identify with wanting to keep your treasures to yourself and not some stealing hobbit!
I agree with Julie – I’m mostly looking for a good backstory and some purpose to the supernatural creature. Not a creature thrown in for the sake of having a creature in the plot.
What about you?

I do enjoy stories that bring together many different types of paranormal creatures, giving a great variety.
