Here at Chapter Break, we don’t always write a full review of every book we read. Well, now we decided to do these monthly wrap-up posts with roundups of our reviews this month and mini-reviews to fill in the gaps. Enjoy!
Mini Book Reviews
A Demon’s Guide to Wooing a Witch Another fun read in this series. The audio was great and the story a fast fun read. Though a bit formulaic, I like a good character redemption and character development/growth.
The Academy: Detective Stories (Two Worlds: Magic Squad Book 1) This was a fun read about a group of friends going through superhero police school, essentially. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the friends and the growth between the characters over the lessons learned and their experiences. The forbidden love between the kick-ass female characters was believable and a rollercoaster. My complaint is the lack of editing – there were so many awkward phrasing or wrong word usage. I definitely understand; the author’s first language is my first language, and the type of errors made are exactly the errors my parents still make (“a” instead of “the”, not knowing idioms and sayings), but an editor would catch all that. It was distracting.
THE PALEONTOLIGIST: Part Crichton, Part Preston & Child, Part Night at the Museum if Night at the Museum was filled with apex zombie predators. THE PALEONTOLOGIST is a thriller for sure. I did wonder while listening if Simon, our main protagonist, was having delusions or hallucinations, or was actually seeing those dinosaurs in the museum. Lots of red herrings on the mystery-solving side of the plot. Solid storytelling and writing.
THE WORST SPIES IN THE SECTOR: Continuing on with Brad and Jessica’s fun adventures in space! This time, they are figuring out how to not be naval officers and make enough money to keep themselves afloat! I continue to enjoy the dynamics between these characters. I found the low gravity fight between Brad and the bad guys interesting. I learned some excellent fighting skills to keep in mind next time I’m in low gravity. I’m in for the next book in this series!

Julie, A Demon’s Guide to Wooing a Witch sounds so fun! I’m not familiar with this series, but I’ll need to check it out. I’m okay with formulaic stories as long as the characters are good.
Thanks for the reviews, girls!
