Julie Review Avatar   JULIE’S REVIEW:

The Ghost of Whispering Willow is a young adult ghost story that starts as a playful encounter and evolves into a deep story of family tragedy, betrayal, and reconnection.

Like in the author’s fairy books, the common theme in this ghost story is friendship and teamwork to help each other solve problems at hand. I enjoyed the interaction between the teens, especially after they got past their initial awkwardness between the boys and girls.

I liked the variety in the kids’ abilities and skills, from the detailed note-taker documenting everything to being skilled with working the tech. The boys and girls groups work together to help the ghosts they discover at the Willows, and the more they learn about the ghost kid’s story, the scarier it gets.

Turns out, ghosts can be in trouble too. And just like the living, ghosts cheat and steal and fight.

This story is fun for any YA and adult reader who enjoys a twisty ghost story with a backstory of murder, betrayal, some great characters, and a heart-warming ending. The writing was descriptive and straightforward. It is at a level middle-grade readers should not be too challenged while reading but can be enjoyed by all readers.
