For this discussion post, we are joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week. How do you like to be scared? Horror or thriller?
Julie:
Truth be told I don’t like to be scared, per se. I like to be entertained by spooky characters and good writing. I like to say, yes, that was well written monster, but not one that will keep me up at night.
To be honest again, both true horror and true thriller (thinking police procedurals) are not it for me. I don’t like the way those books are plotted. Though sometimes thrillers are done right with fast plot and unraveling mystery. So maybe I like to be a bit eeried out with a good plot and spooky characters but I don’t truly want to be in fear, ya know?
Lynn:
Hard pass. Thanks, but no thanks. I prefer my monsters to be cute and cuddly. Not all scary. I also don’t enjoy slasher books. I am a bad sleeper as is and do not need any help with the nightmare fuel.
I do like an action or mystery thriller. Especially if the baddie is engaging or entertaining. But the scariest I want a baddie is some weird monologuing. Not wearing the skins of your victims.
What about you?

Both of your answers had me laughing and agreeing 100%. Scary/spooky characters are good, cuddly monsters are good. Nightmares are bad!
