Author Interview

At what point did you decide to be an author, and what was your path to publication?

I would call myself a storyteller more than an author. History and people’s stories within history absolutely fascinate me. From childhood, I loved listening to stories but also re-telling them to my peers. I now simply do the same on a slightly larger scale.

What are some books or authors that you would recommend to our readers?

I want to suggest an author instead of books, if that’s okay. I’ve been loving Vanessa Riley because she is able to tell very personal stories about real people that illuminate history in parts of the world many of us are disconnected from. In her writing, she demonstrates how history can be deeply personal.

How did you select your topic?

Looking at my children in the summer of 2020, I had to stop and ask myself how I could make sure that they would not live in a bubble but, instead, learn about other people. I wanted them to be kind and demonstrate to them that heroes can look so many different ways and they can exist in many places. Bedtime stories turned out to be the best way to introduce them to various cultures in a very gentle way.

Describe the child that is your target reader.

Definitely a curious mind! It is made for a child whose mind wanders and who has many questions. But it’s also for this child’s parents. (When researching the biographies, I learned a few things myself) 🙂
