For this discussion post, we are joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week. What are your favorite books/audiobooks that you read in 2024?
We are turning this into a 2024 year reading wrap-up, so we will also share some of our least favorite books of the year.
Julie:
Let’s start with acknowledging I read quite a few books this year: Here’s my 2024 Goodreads challenge where I track my reading. I might not read as much as some book bloggers I know, but this is pretty good for me! I set my goal at 50 books because we were moving again this year, and I surpassed it.
Many are review books, some are book club books, a few I read with my son, and fewer still are books I picked for myself for no specific reason.
Here are my favorites:
- Wicked Wish – review book, read ebook
- Weyward – book club book, read ebook
- The Unmaking of June Farrow – book club book, audiobook
- Wrong Place Wrong Time – book club book, audiobook
- Phantom Magic (Dragon’s Gift: The Seeker, #5) – finishing this series spin off finally, audiobook
- Iron Flame (The Empyrean, #2) – book club book, audiobook
Interestingly, my most memorable and favorite books were generally personal choices or book club choices. Sorry review books, but there’s one to represent.
Here are the least favorite sorry not sorry:
- The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store – book club book, audiobook (it won awards but it was so meandery and took forever to get to a point)
- Third Eye– chosen, audiobook (it had so much potential as a Buffyverse spin off, an audio with a full cast, but I think the extra sound effects and too many characters and voices just distracted)
- Self Made: Combining Financial Knowledge & Self Experiences With Wisdom To Impact The Culture – eArc, review copy (it was supposed to be a helpful book for teens/young adults, but rather read more like a here’s how cool I was)
Most of my reading this year was good, but some like these stood out as not meeting my expectations.
Lynn:
I completely agree with Julie’s assessment of Iron Flame and The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store!
I also set my goal at 50 books and far surpassed it. One a week seems like an excellent goal. But I’ve also realized shorter books rock the Goodreads stats!
Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order.
- Somewhere Beyond the Sea
- Somewhere Beyond the Sea
- Somewhere Beyond the Sea
- Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone
- The Love Hypothesis
Empire of the Dammed qualifies as both love and didn’t love. It’s awesome. But stoopid long!
And some I didn’t love as much:
What about you?
