Julie’s Review:

Let’s just start right off with how gorgeous the illustrations are! The mermaid images are stunning and vivid. Love them! I also loved the watercolor drawings used as the background on each page. The contrast between the gentle watercolor pages of the cover and the text pages to the bright vivid illustrations on their own pages in between the words kept the book visually fascinating.

The story is about a beautiful mermaid wh0 finds a map showing the journey of her ancestors who were taken on slave ships. The story about the brave Africans who escaped slavery by diving into the ocean, finding an ancient sea magic was beautiful. This is a story of how the merfolk began.

This book reminds us all to be brave and let this story fill your heart with hope and wonder. It’s a lovely story that is full of hope in times of sorrow.
