EmVee didn’t know what to think about this new town her father’s passion for boxing lured them. It was an unlikely location for her to pursue her dream of going semi-pro. Just when she started getting used to the school with gorgeous jocks and strange cheerleaders, the depth of the danger her father’s choices dangled them in front of became clear. EmVee hoped Silas and Kayson will be able to help her uncover the mystery identity of the person who is threatening her family. The question is, will she survive to expose the mystery.

Julie’s Review:

This was a really quick audiobook: something like two hours. So, there wasn’t much time to develop the world or characters. With that, the story didn’t feel cohesive, but that is maybe the point of a prequel.
Sometimes prequels are published after the series begins to give a bit of a back story on the character. Not having read any of the rest of the series, I can’t say if this would help develop a future story arc. So I can’t judge the world building or character development.
The strange town and the secrets EmVee was trying to discover were curious, though it came together so fast at the end. It introduced the paranormal world and possible villains that I would expect would be detailed out in the rest of the series.
I liked the main character and her ambitions, and I would be curious to see her character development over the series.
The audio narration was nicely done, though I did kind of find it annoying how the narrator pronounced her name as M.V. (emphasis on both syllables as individual letters). Otherwise the narrator had good accents for different people, which was nice.
