Share some book covers you love from the past year.
Julie:
You know we’re quite picky when it comes to our book covers here at Chapter Break – our monthly Chat About Covers and all. But those are usually books we come across and haven’t read. So let’s look at favorite covers of books I have read over the past year:
The Secret Girl: Book One of The Lonely Raven Trilogy is one of my most recent reads, and a cover that is gorgeous. I love the detailed raven image. Am enjoying the dark secret feel of the cover overall against the bright text. The title font is pretty but I really like the author’s name font. Review publishing soon.
Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented By The Alchemical Wizards is in the series of amazingly gorgeous books illustrated to teach the periodic table in the most fun way! See my review.
Onyx Storm is a cover of we have all seen and stared at for hours while waiting for the book to release, so of course it makes the list. Love covers with dragons, always. I enjoy how the covers in this series so far line up with a gradient of colors. The silver at the bottom represents to me that Violet “the silver one” is growing in her power. Obvi the font is awesome. See our review.
As you can see, I am picky about my cover selections. I have read a lot of books, but most of the covers were not that special to write home about.
Lynn:
Julie went all serious on these covers. But I’m going all kitchy. Because that’s how I roll.
I appreciate how the JEWEL OF THE ISLE cover accurately tells the what’s happening in the book. It’s kind of silly, sure. But I still love it!
TOXIC OCTOPUS has that same hand-drawn feel with the the tentacles predominating the cover. Even though the octopus here isn’t a narrator, he’s still crucial to the plot.
Two books in and I adore the Ernest Cunningham series, and the cover of EVERYONE ON THIS TRAIN IS A SUSPECT is a winner for me. Like the other two books, this cover plainly shows us what the novel will be about, a murder, on a train. Plus, we’ve got that Australian scenery out the window.
What about you?

I know I’m in the minority here (in fact, I may be the only one), but I don’t pay much attention to the cover; I jump right into the book’s description.
All of those are so good! Some already on my TBR, others I’ll have to check out. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.

Those are all fun! I haven’t read any of those books. I think my favorite is The Secret Girl!
I love the cover of Toxic Octopus, it’s so fun.
