We’re chatting about covers on Chapter Break. ‘Cause you know we all judge books by covers, whether we admit it or not. We judge the style, the color and font choices, and just the overall look. That might not keep us from reading the book, but we do still judge.
Outline: A Novel (Outline Trilogy Book 1)

Tell me you took a photo at the beach and slapped some text on it with MS Paint without telling me.
It’s a pretty shell, I’ll give you that. But standing up like that is whacky. And the beach itself (the ocean which is always the main character) is blurry. What is being outlined?
And why does it say Picador on the side like that? Is that the publisher or something?
I read the blurb because I was just confused, and the book is about people’s conversations while on vacation. And it’s supposedly won a bunch of awards? I wouldn’t even give it a second look.
And apparently like all this author’s books have covers this plain and textbook looking. Blah.

It’s technically still summer – so a seashell cover is acceptable, if you ask me. But why does this seashell look like it’s walking on two legs? But is also coquettish? That’s not typical seashell behavior!
I also read the blurb and didn’t understand what was going on. I guess it’s a choice.
The block text is fine, easy to read. I like shells, which is what grabbed my attention in the first place. But, tbh, zero interest in this one.
What are your thoughts on this cover?

I agree that this just looks like a quickly slapped-together cover in Photoshop. Very strange!

Based on cover, I wouldn’t pick up this book unless someone recommended it to me.
