Guest Review:

Going to the doctor is never easy when you’re little—or when you’re the parent of a little one who suddenly feels crummy.

Ellie Goes to the Doctor: Staying Healthy and Fit captures that mix of worry, curiosity, and comfort in such a gentle, reassuring way.

This time around, Ellie isn’t her usual bouncy self. She’s sneezing, coughing, and looking flushed.

My kid immediately picked up on it: “She’s sick like I was!” Sure enough, Ellie has a fever—and it’s time to visit the doctor.

What I loved about this story is how honestly it shows Ellie’s nerves.

She starts imagining the doctor as a monster (which is exactly how some kids feel).

But instead of brushing those fears aside, the book lets her feel them, then gently helps her walk through them, with Teddy in one wing and Mom by her side.

It’s sweet and thoughtful. The rhythm of the writing makes it easy to read aloud, and the language feels just right for preschoolers and early readers.

Light and playful, but with enough heart for kids to connect with what Ellie’s going through.

The illustrations are soft and cozy, which helps ease the fear around going to the doctor.

Even the “strange tools” Ellie sees are drawn with curiosity rather than fear.

It’s a great little peek into what a doctor visit might look like, especially for kids who are gearing up for their first time.

By the end, Ellie learns that doctors aren’t monsters, but they’re helpers.

If your kiddo gets anxious about doctor visits, or you just want a cozy read with a helpful message, this one’s a keeper.

It makes health and rest feel important, but never scary. Just another part of growing up, with a feathered friend to lead the way.

We’re big fans of Ellie, and this one definitely earned a spot in our bedtime story rotation.
