For this discussion post, we are joining the Tell Me Something Tuesday challenge run by Jen at That’s What I’m Talking About. Here’s the topic for this week.
Have you been disappointed by the end of a series? If so, did you read that author again?
Julie:
So I think we all can agree we didn’t appreciate the ending of Allegiant. I loved Divergent but it went downhill in the last book for our beloved character. I don’t know if the author has written other books but I haven’t kept up with her.
This one isn’t the end of a series, but I quit The House of Night series after about book 8 or so. You can’t just kill off some of my favorite characters and expect me to stay interested. But I may pick up the rest one day and see if the series redeems itself. They’re all available at the library.
Lynn:
At some point, authors need to retire characters. My examples are both long-running series which, for me at least, have run the course:
I’ve read 27 books in the Stephanie Plum series. That’s enough for me. I no longer care if Stephanie picks Ranger or Morelli. Or blows up yet another car. By the last book I read, I was really only there for Grandma Mauzer, anyway.
I’ve also reached my limit of both the Dirk Pitt and Oregon Files books by Clive Cussler. The adventures have been fun. But the circumstances the characters find themselves in are more and more farfetched.

I think I was the only person in the world who didn’t mind the end of Allegiant. LOL!

So I fully agree with Allegiant, though the author has written quite a few more books (mostly adult though, tbh) that I have liked. Still, I am wary! I don’t know if I have ever been *so* mad that I won’t trust an author again, but they’re definitely only getting ONE more chance, that is for sure!

OH… good call with the Divergent series. That last book was horrible.
I agree with you on Allegiant, Julie. My girls also weren’t fans of that one. Lynn, I can see how a character can be tiring. Thanks for sharing.
