This week’s prompt:
Do you struggle to start a new read after finishing a truly amazing one?
(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Review)
Julie:
Yes because a book hangover is REAL! Sometimes a book just blows you away and you can’t stop being in that world. And reading a different book – starting to enter a whole different universe with new characters – just feels like betrayal.
If I’m that into a particular book, then I get looped into continuing that series or spin offs, if they exist, to keep the feeling going. But if that book is a first a in a series or middle book with a cliffhanger, and no new books in sight? It’s TORTURE!
But my reading list is sooo long I can’t just sit and wallow in a world forever. I gotta keep moving. Though it makes it *very* hard to get into the next book. Following a 5 star read is a slippery slope to not enjoying the next book as much.
Lynn:
Agreed with Julie that the book hangover is real. Especially those emotional, gut-punch cliff-hangers. I switch up genres. Usually to something completely wacky, like that alien trople book I read in December. Or this month I read Dungeon Crawler Carl (which is AWESOME). I am basically looking for a book that won’t evoke any feelings or emotional attachments as a palate cleanser.
What about you?

I do occasionally. It usually happens though when the next book on my read/review list is one that either I didn’t pick – like it was sent by a publisher, or if it is a book not by an author I know I’m going to love every book. But I do have to move on, too many review books and TBR books to waste time. Sometimes I know it has led to me DNFing a bunch of books in a row when I finish a REALLY good book. Great post!

That “betrayal” line made me laugh because it’s so accurate. And unfinished series with cliffhangers? Absolute torture. I’m right there with you! Happy Reading!
