Rose, Julie, and Lynn are three ladies who love to read. We were in several book clubs together and one day in April 2013, Rose and Julie decided to start a book blog together. Lynn joined the blog in November 2014 and Rose went on an extended blogging Hiatus. We live (or have formerly lived) in the Houston, Texas area. Julie and Lynn still run this blog.
We chose the name “Chapter Break” from a book we both absolutely loved, Hopeless by Colleen Hoover. The concept has a lot of meaning and fit what we wanted from this blog. The quote is below.
“One of the things I love about books is being able to define & condense certain portions of a character’s life into chapters. It’s intriguing, because you can’t do this with real life. You can’t just end a chapter, then skip the things you don’t want to live through, only to open it up to a chapter that better suits your mood. Life can’t be divided into chapters. . . only minutes. The events of your life are all crammed together one minute right after the other without any time lapses or blank pages or chapter breaks because no matter what happens life just keeps going and moving forward and words keep flowing & truths keep spewing whether you like it or not and life never lets you pause and just catch your fucking breath.
I need one of those chapter breaks. I just want to catch my breath, but I have no idea how.”
― Colleen Hoover, Hopeless
Rose’s Bio: Rose is an avid reader, enthusiastic book club organizer, aspiring writer? and devoted mommy of one Doberman puppy, Maddox, and one Half-Arabian mare, Kissy. Literature is her life. She has a BA in English Literature and recently even started a Young Adult Book Club (for adults only). She loves books with a love story of some kind and while she does enjoy a HEA, it is not necessary. She enjoys YA and NA, and all of their sub genres so long as the book focuses on character development/growth and lends itself to good discussion. In fact, she started the book club because she believes a book is not complete until the reader engages the text and shares the experience with others. Some books let us know a character deeply. These are good books. Other books help you know yourself deeply. These are great books. Rose no longer blogs on Chapter Break.
Julie’s Bio: Julie loves to read and will need to become immortal to keep up with her to-read list. She is an engineer who does environmental compliance by day but would rather spend all her free time reading great books. She’s also a mommy who works full-time, so that means she has zero free time. She loves to read books in the paranormal genre, whether they are paranormal romance, paranormal YA, urban fantasy, or sometimes horror. She also enjoys dystopia, YA and NA contemporary. She also sometimes reads regular fantasy and sci-fi. She also blogs at: Fab Working Mom Life.
Lynn’s Bio: Lynn loves reading, sometimes feels like her plants are too much of a commitment (they do need to be watered a lot), and uses WAY TOO MUCH emphasis and exclamation points (!!) when she writes. She spends her days working in an IT department and her evenings reading books, magazines, and way too many Buzzfeed posts.
Lynn’s general reading (and life) philosophy is Be You. Don’t be ashamed of what it is that you enjoy reading. Read kids’ books, even if you don’t have kids. Read romances. Read Fantasy. Read Biographies. Just Read. She reads all different genres and has a different favorite author or book depending on the time of day and what she read last. A perfect book would have romance, action, wit, humor, and sword fighting. Or at least verbal dueling between the main romantic characters.
