Editorial Reviews

Review

  • "The author has a terrific writing style and tells one terrific story. I can't wait to read the others in this remarkable series." - P.S. Winn
  • "First up, I'll say if you're an adult who enjoyed Twilight, you'll definitely enjoy this. It has the same doomed love concept that drew me to the Stephenie Meyer's first book: a vampire trying to be good who falls in love with a human. As a result, this book does have strong elements in common with the Twilight series. But Charlotte is no Bella Swan...and Lucas is more adult than Edward the eternal sulky teenager." - Demelza Carlton
  • "If you're looking for a book that will keep you wanting more and love reading series style books then get this one! Absolute talent at its best." - Dragon Rider
  • "A great read! All the twists kept me wanting to see what would happen next! Also pretty sure that Marianne is my spirit animal. A brilliant first novel!" - Alyssa
  • "This was a great book from an upcoming author. The characters were multi-dimensional, the plot was engaging and there is a really great hook at the end. Can't wait to read the next in the series!" - Laura Buchanan

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

D.S. Williams likes to live fictional people’s lives, mainly because they’re much more interesting than her own.

There was a time when D.S. thought she could be like ‘other’ people, holding down a job in the real world. It quickly became apparent this wasn’t a suitable environment for someone with her head in the clouds; but it took nearly ten years of employment, then fifteen years as a full-time parent before she found her niche in working from home – where she can go off on those tangents of imagination.

Employment and family notwithstanding, she’s spent forty odd years engrossed in make-believe worlds, creating characters, placing them into impossible situations and bringing new settings to life. Characters are created in the deepest, darkest corners of her mind and they never, ever do as they’re told – while D.S. has a plan, her characters tend to travel a path wildly different to what was prepared for them.

A lover of multiple genres, D.S. will write just about anything, although she especially loves romances. If you can add werewolves, vampires or other mythical creatures to the mix, she’s in her element. She also loves a spot of suspense, a touch of teasing, and never met a good cliff-hanger she didn’t like.

D.S. is currently working on a number of new projects. She adores strong male characters, feisty females, and developing complex relationships for everyone who turns up in her books.

When not writing or reading, she’s still involved with the written word in her work as an editor – The Pedantic Punctuator – specializing in indie author works.

D.S. loves collecting notebooks and pens, in fact; some would suggest it’s an addiction. Her home is overflowing with (mostly empty) notebooks, and she has a pen for every single occasion.

While D.S. is Australian, her stories are generally set in other countries. She uses her love of research and an addiction to Google Search to flesh out the settings she creates. Most of her books are set in the US, although a current work-in-progress is set in the wine-growing regions of France, and a future book will take place in Scotland.

A reclusive introvert, D.S. lives with her Darling Husband, daughter 'The Bonza Babe' and two new additions - a Cane Corso/Mastiff named Mollie, and a cheeky American Staffy puppy named Stanley. She’s travelled around Australia for nearly 30 years as a military wife, but now lives in sleepy Bridgetown, Western Australia where she intends to spend the rest of her days writing, reading and meeting new (fictional) friends.

It has been suggested that this book is similar to another, more famous vampire book. Yes, there are similarities, though I don't see how it can be avoided, if one wants to write a nice romance about vampires, one that isn't too gory. However, this is much better than that other one, especially in terms of pacing. Also, the characters are more likable. However, I'm not going to spend this review comparing.

I liked this book. I found it compelling. It's plain to see the author is setting up for a bigger series, with lots of characters to develop, which leads to a bit of summing up here and there, and yes, it's a slow build to the cliffhanger climax, but by the time I got there, I was so engrossed in the characters, I needed to buy book two and see what was going to happen.

Note to readers, though the violence in this book is mild, especially for a vampire story, there is a bit of harsh language. There isn't any significant sex (*sob*) but I'm holding out for book 2. =)

Overall, a good read. Nicely done, Ms. Williams.

Wow, lots of twists, turns, and surprises! Super storyline, excellent characters, perfect setting. I would have given it five stars, but for the grammar and spelling issues. Editing could have been more professional. Still, a fun, adventurous read.

Loved it! I'm not big of spoilers, so I'll just say this: The story line kept me reading and the cliffhanger ending had me ready to jump into the next one. What I enjoyed most were the backstories to the characters. They were rich, believable, and I think they'd make excellent books in their own right, particularly the members of Lucas's Kiss that you only get a glimpse of their history. The biggest surprise came from Charlotte. Not you typical girl next door. Add that twist with her devastating past and it packs a wallop. When I read the descriptions of the other books in the series I realized this story is NOT going where I thought it would. Thanks so much!

This one is almost painfully slow, the entire way through, and seems remarkably like Twilight in some ways. BUT, and this IS important, once you get through this 1st book, the other four are MAGIC. SO GOOD! It just took the author a while to hit her stride, and get her ducks in a row. This series ends up becoming so much more. There's intrigue, romance, friendship, and "feels" galore.

Books two through five then deviate away from the "Twilightness" and the spin takes a much different direction when Charlotte finds out she's not quite human. As she nears her 21st birthday she's gifted, via birthright, with different powers that she uses to keep safe, from the vampire council, the differing species she encounters.

Okay, yes, this 1st book is a bit of a ripoff of Twilight. Same kind of characters and plot. And not written as well as the Twilight series. There is WAY too much sad-sap with the heroine, Charlotte. She's extremely depressed throughout, but she has good reason.

Warning: Each book ends in a cliffhanger. But the series is complete, so no waiting! They are currently available on Kindle Unlimited.

Vampire novels are not my preference, but this first effort my D S Williams (The Nememiah Chronicles - Knowledge Revealed) really surprised me. The story as told by the main character Charlotte Duncan takes many twists and turns and makes for very enjoyable reading. The characters are very believable and the insights that are revealed about the life of the vampires and other supernatural characters are very well told. Charlotte reveals within the narrative the she has some supernatural powers of her own and this adds to the strength of her as the main character.

In short I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the second novel on the sereies

This was an awesome read. I was drawn in and even emotionally invested in the story. Shedding a tear at certain points in the story. For me it is a talented writer that can draw the reader completely into the story of the characters. Yes, the story is about a human girl and a vampire falling in love, but that is where comparison stops in regards to another book with girl - vampire romance. I was drawn in from the very beginning trying to figure out why a young woman would be seeking to end her life. The story then turns with an accident that the woman thinks is going to be a fulfillment of her desire. In steps the vampire, who takes responsibility for the accident and pays her medical bills. Later in the story the vampire saves her from fulfilling her wish to end her life. At this point the story turns in a different direction. I have gushed about this book to a friend of mine. The ending has me looking forward to reading the next book. The author has set the bar high with this first book

Decent writing, but this is not a complete book. There doesn't seem to be that much of a plot - vampire keeps rescuing main character when she's about to kill herself, loves her, but can't consummate because he’ll kill her. This is not resolved by the end of the book, instead a new problem is introduced in the last couple of pages.

Enjoyed story, especially the honor of the characters. They remind me of the "honor" of knights stereotype.
Good read. Recommend.

Well written first book of the series. At first I was worried it would be like 'twilight' but was soon put at ease. The writer's style is enjoyable, the ideas not new but rearranged interestingly. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected

Having read multiple other strands of vampire/supernatural books I was unsure how my mind would adapt to another set of 'rules'. The beginning of Charlotte's story didn't endear me to her - having little patience for self pity but once you have fully delved into the story and cried along the way you see her for the heroine she really is. This is one of those times you are grateful you are new to an author as I can now slip straight into the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucas’s idea of asking simple questions so he and Charlotte can know each other better was a great way of making Charlotte feel

What a tragedy to happen to someone so young. Isn’t it ironic that at a time when all you wanted to do was die you ended up making friends.
Lucas’s idea of asking simple questions so he and Charlotte can know each other better was a great way of making Charlotte feel comfortable.
Does Charlotte decide it’s best to end it and meet up with everyone on the other side or does she stay on this realm?
Confusion is now sitting in…how would you react if you came across the supernatural? I have pondered this thought myself quite a few times; in all honesty I don’t know how I would react.
As Charlotte was introduced to the different other people I had to laugh at Striker and Ripleys interaction. There were other times I laughed out loud when Ripley made a comment. I was in fits of giggles when Charlotte found out Strikers real name and what his mother wanted him to do.
Charlottes ‘gift’ is amazing and what she gave back to the ‘Kiss’ to substitute for Christmas presents words could not express how they appreciated the gift.
Sometimes deciding what was best for everyone else so you did not cause them pain is not necessarily the best choice. Like all new relationships there is a lot to learn about each other. It was great to at last see some sunshine come into Charlotte’s life.
All was going great at the wedding until Charlotte was taken.
Book 3 The Nememiah Chronicles - Knowledge Quickening is a must read to see what happens next in this great sage.

Ray
4.0 out of 5 stars A hugely enjoyable paranormal romance.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2014
I'll start by saying that this is not perhaps the genre I usually read. I guess it could be described as a 'paranormal romance'. Having said that I enjoyed it a lot!
The story starts with the main character, Charlotte Duncan, relocating to a small, sleepy town in the middle of nowhere where she tries to pluck up the courage to end her own life, following a personal tragedy - the nature of which is, at this stage not disclosed - in her past. While she is there she meets a mysterious, handsome stranger who captivates her and makes her start to re-evaluate her intentions. It is clear that there is something very different about this enigmatic stranger, and the reader's interest builds as hints at his secret are gradually dripped in until eventually the truth is revealed.
For me, the pace of the story then began to slacken a little from this point onward, through the middle part of the book as Charlotte's relationship with this man and his group of very unusual friends is explored in very extensive detail, and Charlotte's tragic past is gradually revealed.
But then at the end of the book, the pace picks up again and the book ends on a huge cliff-hanger, which actually left me feeling a little short-changed, as you absolutely have to buy the next book in the series to find out what happens. As an author myself, I don't really approve of this tactic: I feel each book should be capable of being read standalone, even though it can of course contain a hook at the end to try to encourage the reader to buy the next book in the series.
Apart from the style of ending just mentioned there was one other factor which prevented me giving this book 5 stars: there were just too many errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation. For me, the distraction caused by these gremlins did detract a little from my overall enjoyment of the book.
Having pointed out the negatives as well as the positives (from my own perspective of course) I have to say it was a hugely enjoyable read and I guess I'll now be buying the second book in the series to see what happens next!

The Nememiah Chronicles while a different genre to what I usually read, was very well written and the characters were interesting and believable. The author kept you interested and provided suspense and a climax at the end which leads into the sequel. A book well worth reading.
